4worldlovers: Labor Day weekend is coming soon on September 2-4th. As a child, this was always a big weekend. Our family would host a party/cook-out for well over a hundred people. Dad either fried chicken on an open fire with a big square skillet my grandmother had had welded for pop or he fried catfish caught in the Ohio River by my Grandpa Voges and my uncles on trot lines. I remember wading creeks with my grandpa, brothers and cousins seining for minnows to bait the trot lines…All fun and games until we got into a nest of snakes. Labor Day was the culmination of weeks of preparation and the party for me was a bittersweet reminder of the blessings of growing up in my extended family and the start of school just around the corner… On Labor Day, I always give thanks to God for the family and friends that were such a big part of my upbringing. Labor Day is also an important time to offer prayers for others that enrich our lives by their daily labor. Let us pray that all God’s children might all find opportunities in employment that make use of their gifts, abilities and passion. May they receive a just wage that permits them to care for themselves and their families. May they find fulfillment in their work and a sense of God’s mission through their efforts. May they experience dignity in their labor.

El fin de semana del Dia del Trabajo, pronto llegará, del 2 al 4 de septiembre. Cuando era niño, este era siempre un gran fin de semana. Nuestra familia organizaba una fiesta/cocina para más de cien personas. Papá freía pollo al fuego con una gran sartén cuadrada que mi abuela había mandado soldar para hacer pop o freía bagres pescados en el río Ohio por mi abuelo Voges y mis tíos con líneas de trote. Recuerdo vadear arroyos con mi abuelo, mis hermanos y mis primos en busca de pececillos para cebar las líneas de trote... Todo diversión y juegos hasta que nos topábamos con un nido de serpientes. El Día del Trabajo era la culminación de semanas de preparación, y para mí la fiesta era un recordatorio agridulce de las bendiciones de haber crecido en el seno de mi extensa familia y del comienzo del colegio a la vuelta de la esquina... En el Día del Trabajo, siempre doy gracias a Dios por la familia y los amigos que fueron una parte tan importante de mi educación. El Día del Trabajo es también un momento importante para ofrecer oraciones por los demás que enriquecen nuestras vidas con su trabajo diario. Recemos para que todos los hijos de Dios encuentren oportunidades de empleo que aprovechen sus dones, capacidades y pasión. Que reciban un salario justo que les permita cuidar de sí mismos y de sus familias. Que encuentren satisfacción en su trabajo y un sentido de la misión de Dios a través de sus esfuerzos. Que experimenten la dignidad en su trabajo.

Welcome to a new school year at Holy Redeemer! We are off to a great start. Our enrollment is up to 265 students in preschool through grade 8. We have two classes of kindergarten and first grade and we have aids working in second and third grade to help support our larger classes. With the exception of 7th and 8th grade, all of our classes have 21 or more students in them. This is an exciting time at Holy Redeemer!

Many of you may be aware that the voucher program in Indiana expanded again this summer. It’s estimated that more than 95% of Hoosier families can now qualify for the Indiana Choice Scholarship based on their annual income. This is great news for families. Parents can now choose public or private schools in Indiana and see their tax dollars go to work to educate their children. If you or someone you know is looking for a great school but is worried about the cost of private school education, please tell them to call me!


If you’d like to support Holy Redeemer School, consider purchasing ribs from one of our students. They are $25/slab and have always been a big hit. We are selling them until Monday, August 28. Ribs will be ready for pick-up on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 1-3 pm in the back parking lot. All proceeds will go to help support the mission of Holy Redeemer School which is to provide a safe, challenging learning environment.

Join us for a rosary before Mass at all of the weekend Masses. We begin a half hour before Mass starts.

Every Wednesday evening we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 5 pm until 5:45 pm with Mass starting at 6 pm.
