Becky Seidel: I liked the establishment. I would like to play Bingo there. Unfortunately, when I was told it was a good place to go for Medicare open enrollment, I made an appointment. I guess the person I talked to was a federal employee not a SWIRCA employee. She said I might qualify for a program called SHIP and gave me a brochure and she also helped me find a different drug plan that was cheaper than my current plan and told me SHIP (a federal program) would contact me.Ok, now back to the present 1-3-2023 No one from SHIP contacted me. I did get a letter in the mail that I applied for food stamps (SNAP). This is a good state program, however I never applied for it! I was very confused at this point. I didn’t know someone could apply for you without your knowledge or permission (unless they were your guardian) and even thought you might be grateful. I am not! If I wanted or needed food stamps I would apply for them myself. Now the food stamp program wants me to voluntary withdraw from a program I never applied to in the first place! Again, I never did hear from SHIP. I wish I could remember the lady’s name I talked to at SWIRCA. I feel misled.What did I learn from all this happening to me? Be very careful during open enrollment. Tell them to call you first and ask you if you want to be signed up for another program that might be of help to you. Remember, it is very important to know all of the restrictions involved in every program. Read them first.
