Budget Car Rental: what do users think?
Misty Todd: When we arrived pick up our 7 passenger vehicle we were given a choice of 1 ,7 passenger vehicle or a 5 passenger. So really no choice, because we need a 7 passenger vehicle. The car had not been cleaned very well as we found food and drink bottles under the seat. We also had to get new wiper blades 20 minutes into our trip. We also had the brakes squeaking. Just really disappointed.

After constantly giving me attitude throughout our phone conversation he finally admitted I was right but couldn’t help me. I was then directed to numerous other people through the 800 number and the airport who also all told me that the original agent missed up but didn’t know how to help me. After several days I finally did get through to someone in customer service who knew how to do their job.

Audree Wilgus: This place does NOT make anything easy. I should have gotten free collision insurance through my credit card, but what they don't tell you is that they haven't progressed for the past 10 years and do not have chip readers. They are also incapable of entering cards manually. The mag strips on my cards have worn off and havent worked in ages, which never mattered, until today. They do not accept any cash whatsoever. If you have to resort to a debit card, they will require a second form of identification with an address on it that matches what is on the renter's drivers license. They'll accept digital versions, thank God, or else my entire weekend and $200 rental (for 2 days!!) would have been wasted. My final gripe with this place? The only reason I even had to pay for 2 days is because they don't offer after hours drop off. They have a box for it, but you'll be charged for an extra day. The insurance I had to pay for only because of their technical ineptitude?? $30 per day. I wish I had just gone to a different company, but they keep $150 of your rental if you cancel the day of. I'm sure some of this is standard, but they don't explain anything properly.
Jus Pri: I reserved a rental online a couple weeks before I needed it for a short trip. The day of pick up I got a call confirming my reservation and also was told I had a free upgrade. I picked up an SUV and examined it took video before I drove off of the lot. It was clean inside and out. When I returned the SUV I had charges I was concerned about which where pending and eventually fell off. I only had one issue with a charge and called customer service which they took care of. I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 because of that issue and I had to wait to get credit back on my card. Thank you Budget!
Nick Toprani: I paid $11.99 for a Toll Pass that did not work, I paid out of pocket for all toll expenses. I called Budget but was put on hold for over two hours and hung up. I emailed Budget about the issue but have not heard back in three days. Please be aware of overcharging / lack of customer service and low professionalism. I should have rented from a different company.

I started comparing prices 3-4 weeks beforehand to see what they offered, check on promos, see if they offered unlimited miles, any discounts like AARP - which they did accept, & extra’s like a car dolly, if it came with a ramp, etc. We picked it up on the date & time we reserved it for but it ended up being a 16 foot truck instead of a 12 foot, it did have a ramp which was extremely helpful, & also a back hitch if you needed one, we did not utilize. I didn’t really want one that big but it all worked out. You do need to provide your own lock on the back of the truck to secure your belongings & I believe you can purchase things like that right from the location you pick it up at, even moving blankets, boxes, bungee cords and A furniture dolly, etc. It had a full tank of gas when we picked it up. It was one of there newer trucks & it got us almost 6 states away & through the mountains, snow, & even an ice storm! It took regular unleaded fuel & it had a 35 gallon tank. I maybe got 10 miles to the gallon, & it was way more than I figured it would be to fill it up every time gas prices are very high everywhere though right now and the cheapest fuel we found was 3.19 a gallon. I won’t say exactly what I paid because every location is different & this was a 1-way long distance move, it did Not have unlimited miles yet they offer about The amount you need & a tiny bit more is it, so be careful & is $1.00 for every single mile over what they give you unless you negotiate that ahead of time, which I did. There’s not a lot of room in the cab & my seatbelt was twisted & wasn’t right - I tried to fix it but couldn’t, it may have come like that from the factory, no one sat in passenger seat, or middle fold-down seat, the 1-cup holder held cups a bit odd & I lost a drink or 2 while going up a hill!🤣 but if that’s the worse thing to have happen I’ll take it! Good luck on your next move! Let’s just say we were happier than heck to bring the truck back! No offense, it worked great, just wore out after a move like that!

Timothy Brown: Don't go there if you're using an insurance claim. A friend had Geico and had his catalytic converter stolen off a 2022 eclipse cross. He had 1500 for the rental but geico cut it off at 20 some days and only 700 of the 1500 being used. Neither Geico or Enterprise notified him of this. We went almost another 30 days before he finally got his vehicle back. So he lost $500 for the insurance deductible and then was socked with $700 balance for the rental car.Where is common courtesy.I told him I'd start with getting rid of Geico and then let people know about Enterprise's tactics.

Elizabeth Allen: Do not rent from this place. I've had a reservation for 3 weeks now for a Tesla out of the this location to go to Florida for a funeral and got there today to pick it up at my assigned time and there was a note on the door saying that the location was closed which is the only location in Fort Wayne due to someone having covid in the office. I have already paid for the car when I reserved the car. There option was to drive to Kalamazoo Michigan which is 4 hour round trip myself to pick up another car from another location on my dime. So they took my money and still did not get a car. After getting off the phone with the crooks at corporate, I attempted to find another vehicle at another rental place but those locations are all closed for the day so now we are missing the funeral. This should be illegal to not notify people after they have already paid for something and then turn around and keep the money. RUN, DO NOT BOOK YOUR VEHICLE HERE!!!
Erin: I would have given 0 stars if that were possible. We’ve had our reservation for 2 months and the day we’re supposed to pick up our car rental they called and told us they didn’t have it or any vehicles for that matter. It’s spring break and now we have to scramble to find a replacement last minute. Wouldn’t recommend them.. there’s better service out there.

Kendra Burnett: Sorry this is long but everyone needs to know the truth of this place. I made them aware I was making this post as well. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! Issues first started when I was charged a week in advance for my rental from the 10-16, was charged on the 4th. I called and asked them then they said that’s policy, not written anywhere and I needed a $200 deposit when I pick it up. I asked why that was not stated on their website, and they say most of our third-party websites don’t say that. Which was strange, considering I rented from the Hertz website itself. Upon arriving at the dealership they said our deposit was going to be $500 instead of the $200. And they gave us an SUV a quarter of the way full instead of a smaller car. We were driving to Arizona, and SUV is not good for gas mileage. We ended up spending an extra $300 on gas that we did not want to spend. When we came back cleaned the car and filled it and had it returned by 6:43 PM. My rental agreement said I had to return the car by 7 PM. I called the next morning at 8:22 AM and they said everything was fine and the car was checked in. Several days later I received an email saying my car had not been checked in and it was overdue. After emailing back for forth with one of the consultants, they said everything was fine and checked in, and all was good. Today I looked at my bank account and it was -$247. Hertz had charged me for an extra week, and a late fee for a whole other car I didn’t even have access to. After calling them today and figuring out what was going on they realize that it was an error on their end 100% and I’ll be refunded. My refund does not come in for 7 to 10 business days. Which means my account will be negative for over 7 to 10 business days. The first of the month is tomorrow. I have bills due that impacts my credit report tomorrow that cannot be extended. The only thing they could think of to make this right outside of a refund was a $100 voucher for a future rental. I will never be renting from them again and I will do everything in my power to make sure no one else does either until this company gets their stuff together.

Jadecca: I am 23 years old, please !!! Please do not come here !!! Two white ladies who sit at the front desk here , please be aware of these goons! I got into a car accident June 25th, 2022. July 18th is when I finally had to get a rental car. I was being charged $188 a week , and under the insurance claim , they’re who I had to go to. My bill came out $983.75 when I finally gave up the contract. In the beginning I gave these people $400 something dollars for a deposit. Before I gave up the contract with them, I had paid for two more weeks. The overall balance was $1,000 something dollars minus the $900 dollars. When it was time to give up the contract , these people DOUBLE CHARGED ME , put me in the negatives with my bank and told me it was a pending charged. I was put -983.75 in the negatives. Pending charges are put on authorization holds. These people never even gave me my money back for the two weeks I paid for and didn’t use. After putting in a claim with my bank and showing them the receipts and screenshots of authorized charges (that weren’t pending), they went back and told my bank that for one : I did not get my rental card through an insurance claim WHEN I DID. For two, that the charge was not on accident after specifically showing them receipts of charges on my account. Three, after calling hertz and telling them about what my insurance claimant said, one of them started yelling at me on the phone , and hung up the call. ALL MY CALLS ARE RECORDED AND IM NOT LYING. They charged me twice $983.75 then went back and told my bank that they never did when I had real life Proof of being charged through my bank statements. PLEASE , if you can ..do not come here!!! They are stealing money, telling people they’re pending charges. !!

They were not willing to give me the same price at a different location. Would never recommend. Their customer service is terrible. No wonder they have such a low rating. BEWARE!!!

Found out they waited 10 days to pick up the vehicle after I had previously called letting them know I was dropping it off at a different location. I had asked why they waited 10 days to pick up the vehicle when they told me on the 5th they'd get it that day or the following monday. I asked for a refund and they said it'd take 5-7 days. Called after 7 days and was told it didn't go through for some reason and they would refund it within another 5-7 days. It has been 15 days now and I still have yet to get the $125 refunded to me for their mistake.
Kelly Li: Worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. Between them and my insurance I was on the phone for 2.5 hours. My insurance was shocked about their policies and even called into corporate Hertz to hash it out. I tried to extend my rental with them once my insurance coverage was up, offering to self-pay, but they would not honor the discounted insurance price unless my insurance could generate a brand new reservation code (which was impossible because of system constraints). They forced me to close out my rental and then wouldn’t let me book under my insurance discount, instead wanting me to pay around $90/day out of pocket at the normal rate. Took calling in five times before someone even picked up. I rented a car from them for 80 days, meaning they made almost $2,000 from my rental and yet were unwilling to accommodate when I wanted to extend the rental. Ended up switching to Enterprise which had me booked in 10 min with my insurance discount no questions asked

Myriam Barajas: Booked with Hertz for an 8am pickup. When my husband arrived they were running late and weren’t open yet. After waiting 15 mins and getting ready to leave they realized the gas light was on. So they had to go fill it up. Did not get out of Hertz until 8:50am.My issue is that nothing was offered after not being prepared and being an entire hour behind. What’s the point of an appointment time. Also was maintenance even done? Was the car even inspected for safety? How can you run a car check before renting and not notice an empty tank. Not booking here again.
Jennifer Bryant: Made a reservation and showed up 15 mins late from the two hour time frame no one told us about, that also wasn't on the rental agreement. Our reservation was for 2:30, and I arrived at 4:45. I was waiting for 20 minutes for Lindsey to even come into the office. Most likely Lindsey was in the process of giving away our vehicle because we didn't show up in time, even though they are open until 6. She agreed that the two hour time frame was not on the contract, that it was their policy. She contradicted the person my sister spoke to on the phone who said we just needed to get there by 6 when they close. Lindsey Dye was the rudest, most unprofessional office employee I've ever dealt with. She didn't try to work with me or offer other suggestions. She literally got up and left the office and went through a locked door and left me sitting in an empty office. Enterprise is the way to go! They even upgraded my vehicle when I told them what happened at this company. I ❤️them!!! Their friendliness and helpfulness know no bounds.

We poured over 6 hours into replacing a key fob battery, waiting on Ubers, constantly jump starting, waiting on AAA and replacing a battery because their roadside assistance does none of this. Worst rental experience of my life.
Taylor Wilkerson: We booked a rental minivan a couple months in advance for one week using Priceline. I arrived to pick up the rental an hour early (it was the only available ride to Hertz I was able to get) and the van was ready to go. The check in process was simple and I was on my way in just a few minutes. The minivan was a new model, very clean, and in great condition. It was also a hybrid which helped tremendously on our long drive. The staff at this location was friendly and helpful. The van was low on windshield washer fluid, which I only knew because the van would display alerts on the interior display. This wasn’t a big deal at all as I had fluid on hand to top it off. Returning the rental took a few seconds. I would highly recommend this location because of the ease of rental, the quality of vehicles, and the friendly service.
Callison Transportation Inc.: My insurance company had made a reservation there to for me to pick up a rental. The girl, Lindsey was working the front desk. Right from the beginning she acted inconvenienced that my fiance and I were even there let alone the fact she had to help us. When she asked for our insurance id card I told her I kept it on my phone and I would email it to her. She literally exhaled so loud and rolled her eyes then walked away mumbling under her breathe. Long story short she was so rude and condescending we canceled the reservation and went down the road to enterprise where they were super helpful and friendly. My recommendation is don't waste your time at this business, as alot of other reviews will show you.

It’s Monday now she doesn’t have the key says she can’t find it but the key was left with her and she tried to blame her co-worker when it was all her doing. I’m done done with Hertz after this episode.

A Follower of Christ: Perfect van for our trip to Florida to see family. The only thing I didn't like was the huge extra charge for a toll we HAD to drive through without paying a person because there wasn't a person to pay. The toll advised us to keep driving and we would be billed. We were fine with that, but there was a service charge of $11.85 attached to our $6.80 toll. I would have rather of gotten a phone call that they were going to charge such a larger service charge than the toll itself. I would have paid it right there in office so I wasn't charged the service fee. Instead of paying $6.80 for the toll, we were charged $18.65. They charged it without my knowledge and just emailed us that it was paid for through a do not reply email. So if you drive through tolls, be sure to ask to pay in office so you aren't charged almost $12 to pay your tolls.
Korey Mervenne: The process of getting the vehicle last minute was good. The blue equinox drove well, but the vehicle a times would temporarily shut off when I stopped then restarted the car once I lifted my foot off the break! Maybe next time make sure your vehicles are maintained.

Seems Allstate cannot figure out which claims adjuster answers the questions and what their procedures are. They sent mixed signals to me which made getting and keeping a rental car a nightmare. Allstate re-imburses for the cost of a rental car (meaning that you have to pay upfront and then get paid later for the cost of the rental, for which I have yet to see a check from them), which made keeping things straight with Enterprise and Mateo somewhat chaotic. He was very patient about the whole situation along with his staff who was very friendly (offered me a bottle of water while I had to wait and was very cordial to me). I recommend Enterprise on Lima Rd. in Fort Wayne IN to anyone who has rental car needs.BTW, you are NOT in good hands with Allstate.

EmperMa: The service allows you to "reserve" a car for a particular time. It does not notify you, however, that when you get to their location, they actually have no cars available. You spend your time navigating their website and getting to and from the pickup location in vain A terrible model for a business and should not be respected as they offer no respect for their customers themselves.

Jenny there treats you like you are a lier and not to meantion vehicle was already dirty and had to put air in the tire. They messed up my bank account and wont make nothing right. The car I did receive had Mechanical issues that didn’t make completely safe to drive, the car was dirty on the outside, I had to clean the windows so I could see when the sun in my face. There was an old damage paint and dent on trunk that I discovered after I rented it. The inside was clean drove well 1 week, I may go elsewhere. The agent was chatty and 1 other customer had been helped outside and was waiting on a car not in lot. I was overall not satisfied for the unnecessary fees and he would not take AAA discount. That is why I went there for AAA recommended service. I am still not happy for that. I will tell all my family go to enterprise or others and check them first. Online is how I decided to use Avis. VERY disappointed

We booked a rental car online to be picked up at 9:30, we got there at 9:30 and they told us they didn’t have any cars, this is not the first time this has happened. Someone should have called before 9:30 to let is know they did not have cars available. They gave us an estimated time and they still did not have cars. Why allow people to make reservations online and accept them if you don’t have cars. The workers are rude and don’t try to help or fix anything in the matter. I will not be renting from avis or budget again.
Cheryl Davis: You have to have a major credit car. No debit car. Also the jeep we rented from them has a slow leak in the rear driver side tire. With the week i had the car we had to put air in the tire three times.

She handed me a pamphlet with an 800 number circled telling me to call and cancel it. She refused considering any exception even for the emergency situation I was in, and showed no interest in being helpful, professional or even friendly. Not a real good interaction for any company.

I had to clean the steering wheel and all other areas that I was touching, because I could visibly see dirt and junk all over. Then as I was driving away, I realized the gas tank was below 3/4 tank full...but I had to return it full or be penalized. Very agitated about the experience. #1 we are in times where cleanliness is extremely important, so this company dropped the ball in that category big time. They also dropped the ball on filling the gas tank for the next driver. Quite disappointed with this experience and I have rented with Alamo on several occasions. I hope they get their act together for when I rent with them again or else I will go elsewhere.

Tony & Kristin Sedlmeyer: Just got home from traveling to Dallas/Fort Worth. I read reviews to find a rental car and even though I saw some reviews stating this company had a lot of hidden fees, we found a good deal on Priceline and went for it anyway. I regret this so much! We got slammed with so many hidden fees! What should have been a $241 car rental for 4 days, turned into $400! Will never rent a car from here again.

After a long day of flight delays and missing flights, we arrived, and proceeded to get our car when the representative informed us they did not have a car for us. She let us know that cars were book months in advanced. If you do not have enough cars to accommodate your customers, then you should not advertise them as available. We did drive through the rentals, and noticed many cars in the lot. This is unacceptable to customers that could have been potentially stranded. The representative was completely unhelpful and did not care about our situation. If anything she should have worked to find us another car with a different company.

I asked if I returned it (the key) in the drop box at night would I be charged for another day. He said no. Ok cool.I had reserved the car for Fri 6pm to sun 6pm for $76. I ended up returning the car sat at 8, leaving the key in the drop box. (I've done this many times with other rental companies and NEVER had any issues.) I looked on my credit card tues. Morning to see how much I had actually gotten charged and it said 100. I called immediately. The sales guy told me that in the system the car was still rented out to me and not returned. what!?!?!? I told him I returned it sat. And he said he didn't work Saturday. I said ok I understand that but don't you check the key box every morning?? I returned it saturday night and its tuesday. That's 2 days ago.. i would hope you have looked in the key box since then. He took my number and said he would have to call down to the garage. Nearly an hour later after not hearing anything I call. He said they found the car and he had it returned saturday and my total would be $96. what?!?! I returned it early and its more then what it would have been if I kept it the whole time? That doesnt make sense. He first said it was airport fees and then when i said i dont see how the fees are more then the car he told me the car was $80 a day. I told him I was looking at the receipt which said $31.25 a day. I asked which one was right his computer or my receipt seeing as the receipt came from his computer.. He said if have to come in and bring my reciept. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME. I WAS SO UPSET BUT THERE IS NO WAY I'M GIVING THEM $60 FOR NOTHING. As i was leaving to go up there he ends up calling me back and saying he sees what happened and my total is actually $37.Ridiculous. Seriously ridiculous. I guess you get what you pay for. I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER rent from this company again. Such a hassle and not worth it. The car was so dirty, I had to wipe the black off the window before I could leave the parking lot. But they say its a no smoking car. The inside of the car looked like it had been wiped down with a dirty old wet rag and there were streaks all over the chrome trim inside. I took pictures. I've emailed the customer service but what a shock they haven't emailed back . I don't even feel like calling and complaining because I'm sure nothing will be done about it. What a headache.I suggest enterprise. 98% of the time they have clean cars and 100% great fast courteous service. Ive only gotten a dirty car from enrerprise one time and they had no problem giving me a free day, he actually asked what he could do to keep my buisness.They go above and beyond to make sure you come back, not these guys. They suck.UPDATE:I emailed customer service (it took them a week to respond to every email.) They said they would send a coupon out to me. I told them I did not want a coupon because i would never rent from them again. I sent them my review (I didn't feel like explaining myself again) and their response was:"Please accept my apology for any misunderstanding on the response that was sent out. Review of our record show a response was sent from Case#0032141x with a coupon for the inconvenience and reply was customer do not want a coupon, but reimbursement on the rental. Further review of our records show you were charged accordingly, therefore no reimbursement is due to be issued back to the rental."DO NOT RENT FROM HERE.

mike frieden: I love your Warsaw location and Budget/Avis all together. Fort Wayne Airport location let me down. I had a reservation for 9AM. I was greeted with “we have nothing ready or available at this time you’re going to have to wait” your attendant didn’t ask my name or anything. I continued standing there as other customers were helped. My growing angry and frustration grew after an hour. I approached the counter again. Her reply, “yes sir, what is your name for check-in” I gave her my name and she tells me my vehicle isn’t cleaned or ready. I ask if anything is available? “Yes, a small suv for the same price” which makes no sense due to me renting a large suv. I was already waiting close to 2 hours at this time so I accept. Your agent handed me the keys and said it’s at A10 go get it. I proceed to a10 without her accompanying me to do any walk around. The gas was 3/4, the windshield had at small crack, the seats were filthy so I call and report these issues to only be hung up on. I finally get these issues reported to a cooperate number so I’m not at fault. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I’ve never been so ignored and degraded by a customer service rep

Bradley Nestor: On March 9th, 2023, I flew into Fort Wayne International Airport. The Budget Representative, Dawn, at the Fort Wayne International Airport was rude, and non efficient. I requested an economy car, to which the representative wanted to give me a Ford Mustang and a Pick up Truck of some sort. I was very confused. I waited over an hour while Dawn was calling around to investigate about some car that had been missing/totaled a few days prior. Dawn eventually called some guy to bring keys up. He had many keys. The girl that was working with Dawn the whole time finally just picked yes from some bin. Offering me a pickup truck of some sort. This whole time the airport was dead. Finally, I got a Ford Ecosport, which had tape running on top of the window, the door side panel was some what off, and it was dirty inside. I walked in and spoke to the girl, not Dawn, and she said she will make note of the defects. I didnt believe she would because they had gotten busy, so I called Budget myself. I told them about everything wrong with the car. They gave me a case ID number. The Case ID number was 54248513. I will not be using Budget in the future.

Sam Fageol: Rude employees. Offered to upgrade me to a “RAV4” but after I paid they gave me a different vehicle. Nobody walked me to the car. They gave me very vague (and incorrect) directions that had me searching the lot for 15 minutes. I was told if I dropped the car off to a closed location, I would be charged a $50 fee. None of the locations are open after 1pm on Saturday, so that’s really convenient. They told me to stay the night and drop it off Sunday morning, like a hotel would be more cost effective than paying the $50 fee. I dropped it off and literally locked the doors and dropped the key in the lockbox with a paper indicating that the tank was full and the time I was dropping it off. I’m sure handing the keys to an employee would’ve made a huge difference, just a money grab. Won’t be renting from Budget again - the only thing they are consistent at is providing a really poor customer experience.

Once I got outside and opened the door of the vehicle the driver side floor was filthy with rocks and dirt. I then looked under the seats and there was trash, French Fries, candy rappers and all under the seats. I then opened the arm rest and the paperwork from the previous renters was still in the vehicle. I just feel it was a horrible experience and the truck rode terrible on the highway. One thing I know is I’ll never rent or own a Toyota 4Runner unless I live in the country with hills, etc. Over all I wouldn’t recommend Budget to any off of my own experience but I’m sure someone else may actually enjoy a different rental and hopefully it’s cleaned out.
Ms Keri (Keri Baby): I rented with this company and it was good. But this time I received a dirty car one that was defective. The wiper blades to be exact and I had to drive through a thunder storm that got delayed because the wipers were not good. Also I was over charged.
