Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control is back with its fifth annual fundraiser, Howl-O-Walkoween with the popular pet costume contest!
The 2023 Howl-o-Walkoween will be held Saturday, October 21st at Promenade Park Pavilion located in beautiful downtown Fort Wayne. The event will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature a pet costume contest, a walk through Promenade Park, raffle prizes, several vendors, and much more!
Registration for the pet costume contest and walk is $30 for adults, $10 for children and $60 for a family four pack. Participants who register on or before September 1st will receive $5 off their total and will be entered in a raffle for a shelter visit. Registration will be available at the event as well.
In addition to the in-person events, there is an online clothing fundraiser featuring a design by Graphics by Sarah Nicole. The clothing fundraiser will run through the entire month of October at fwacc.org
This year’s guest of honor will be Joey. Joey is a two-year-old Brindle and Pit Bull mix who was saved by the good Samaritans of Fort Wayne earlier this year. When Joey was brought to the shelter, he needed immediate care. Joey was severely underweight, stained in urine, and had an arched back. One of our goals was to gain his trust, and when we did, his true personality blossomed! After all the teamwork and one-on-one attention Joey was available for adoption. Joey now has one dog sibling and two cat siblings to be friends with. He will now be forever loved and spoiled as he deserves.
All the money raised during the Howl-o-Walkoween will go directly toward the shelter’s efforts to end animal cruelty and neglect through education. Research has shown that there is a direct link between animal abuse and other types of abuse like domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse. Children who are abused or witness abuse are more likely to become abusers themselves, often starting by hurting animals. The Humane Education Department at FWACC works to stop the cycle of violence by teaching children compassion and empathy toward animals. The Humane Education Department’s program relies on donor dollars to reach thousands of children each year through its summer camps, reading program, teen programs, and much more.

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control is having an adoption sale on all cats and kittens. This sale will occure through the end of August. All cats and kittens’ adoption fees will be waived. The adoption sale also applies to cats and kittens at off-site locations, including Covington Veterinary Hospital, Westside Animal Hospital, Black Forest Cat Café, Pet Supplies Plus, and Petsmart stores.
The adoption center hours are open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from noon until 5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from noon until 6 p.m.
FWACC is an open-access shelter that does not turn away animals for any reason, even if there is no space. Adoption events and sales help clear kennels to make room for the animals coming in daily and provide more positive outcomes for the animals in our care.
Interested adopters can view available animals and fill out an adoption application here or fill out an application when they arrive at the shelter. All adoptions are first-come to the shelter, first-serve.

$65 ”Pick Your Price” – grant has been awarded to help offset the costs, average adoption fee given has been $30.
FWACC staff and volunteers do everything possible to ensure the shelter pets are well cared for and meet their needs. However, nothing beats the security of a loving home.
Our adoptions are first come, first serve, so we encourage adopters to arrive early. We are asking potential forever families to do the following so that they can take their new family member home right away:
If you have pets at home, we will require your dog(s) to MEET the potential adoption dog.
Bring in your ENTIRE family. Children 5 years of age and under will be required to meet the potential adoption animal.
If you are adopting a cat or small animal, no animal-to-animal interactions will be required.

Keith Menefee: Well actually I went there first time since I adopted my first cat and they don't have a cat that I'm looking for but I am looking for a small kitten for my cat to take care of because he lost his roommate if anyone knows where I might be able to find a nice little kitten a nice little kid did you hear me say that That's funny I'm nice little kid because I think it would help her feel better anyway someone reads this just had kids and what's going on love one I will take one as long as it is not a long haired cat I can work with anything but all the hair anymore there you go this is the old man from fort Wayne Indiana looking for a little kitten to find a home I'm out of hereA

Don Mega: Cat terrorizing my property and plants. Climbs outside window screens. They won't remove it because it's a neighborhood cat. Ears clipped by them so it stays and terrorizes properties. Renters don't care

Wendy Geisman: Brought in two kittens and the momma who are strays to get fixed. Unfortunately, the momma passed away during surgery. She must've had heart problems and couldn't handle the meds to be put to sleep for surgery. They tried to call me before I picked them up, but were compassionate about telling me what happened. I'm working with them to catch and bring in more strays that people dump where I live. It's heartbreaking. What a great group of people. Only one lady at the front desk wasn't so friendly when I was there.

Dawn Handschy: My daughter and her four kids got a cat today. They were very friendly and made sure that the animal was suitable for young children. They make sure to choose the right pet for you and your family. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous. And it was fairly inexpensive to adopt a kitten.
Jessica Kramer: My son fell in love with a cat from Pet Supplies. I applied to adopt and got one call with instructions to call another number for Karen. Crickets after that. I have left message upon message and no one has gotten back to me. I have a very disappointed child now. Won't be adopting through FWACC in the future.
Alexandrea Talbert: I would give them no review but it won’t let me all they do is euthanize pets and leave people crying don’t support this it’s horrible when we took the dog in he was fine had no aggression towards them and they said they reason they put him down was because of the aggression the they refused to give him back to a good home with me
