Union Savings Bank: what do users think?
Sarah Diehl: I would highly recommend USB. We work with Brian Kinnary and have for 3 years. He's very knowledgeable on the mortgage, refinance, and specialty loans. He has helped us lock in low rates on all of our loans. He has made every transaction an easy process. We will always use USB and work with Brian for all of our home loans.
Abby Leffler: Would never recommend or use ever again
Matthew Meinema: Kevin did a great job finding us the best product for our needs. Saved us thousands!
Tom Beasley: To return a phone call, text or email doesn't seem important to Kaye K. The seller reached out to her several times and no response so we tried and got the same. The manager (David) said he would handle it and still nothing. After 30 days we realized she hadn't even ordered an appraisal. Nonetheless the buyer went to Ruoff and we got it done in less than 25 days. Her lack of response and poor customer care could of very well prevented the sale.
Cody Karolzak: I highly recommend Kevin Fortriede to anyone looking for a new purchase, refinance, or specialty loan. Not only does he have some of the lowest closing costs I’ve seen, but also the customer service he provides is top notch. Very easy transaction process. I’ll plan on doing more business with USB as long as he’s still there.
Chris Costanzo: Kevin Fortriede from USB was very professional and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for new home purchase, land or refi loans. Their model is unique and offers the buyer the absolute best value. Not only is the model sound, but he will work with you to present the very best option that fits your particular needs. There is not a "one size fits all" mentality/ approach to the loan process which I appreciated as a human being making a very important life event. Just closed today and couldn't be happier! Thank you Kevin & USB!!
Mark Niles: Would not recommend. Don’t be fooled by advertisements of low closing costs. Was told the wrong information multiple times through out my refinance. I was told the application fee was one amount at it was higher. I was told in writing my interest rate was locked at 3.25 and it wasn’t.There are must better lenders in town. I made a mistake selecting Union Savings to save a few bucks. Go with Ruoff or 3Rivers if you want a smooth transition.
Chris Drudge: Echoing the issues several others had with Union Savings Bank. Just run away. Don't even consider them. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. While a good rate and low closing costs sounds good initially, it doesn't mean anything if you never actually close. What USB does excel at is taking your application fee, sitting on it for a month, making you reapply, trying to get a 2nd application fee, then ghosting you despite multiple attempts over several weeks.Even awful, predatory lenders will at least talk with you in an attempt to screw you over more. Not Union Savings Bank, and definitely not Kaye Kleinschmidt.
Nate Raymond: The worst financial institution I have ever dealt with. We chose them based on our Realtors recommendation and they bragged about having the lowest closing costs over anyone. What they don't tell you is in the end they add on all the extra fees that you would normally pay but they lie to you and tell you that 500 bucks is all you'll pay. All of the other Banks I've dealt with bundled all the charges up front so we knew ahead of time what we were getting into. And especially don't ever deal with Brian Kinnery. Supposedly he's been in the banking industry a long time it certainly doesn't show. Poor communication skills poor organizational skills and poor knowledge of the overall job function. They upped the amount of cash we had to bring the closing 3 days before closing, by $20,000 and acted like it was not a big deal. I explained over and over their math was wrong and they said we can't change it now. With the fear of losing the closing deal on our house I cashed out my 401k and rushed a check to our bank so we can close only to find out the day of closing they corrected it back to the normal amount. Absolutely horrible service I would never ever use these people for anything.
Bruce Payne: It took 2 months to get a decision...denied. Ruoff Mortgage gave us much faster service and approved at less than 3%.
Ben Shears: What a joke got pre-approved paid all fees did everything they asked, paid everything off. They lied and denied me
E: Union Savings Bank (USB) has the best business model for the lowest cost Mortgages and Refinancing in Fort Wayne. You can't match their rates and fees!! Where else can you get a Mortgage for $499 or a Refinance for $299 with no points, extra fees, etc. Kevin Fortriede of USB Fort Wayne is the best loan officer I have ever worked with. He is so professional, knowledgeable and efficient. Your loan will never be held up by Kevin - he is moving faster than you can. He has now helped our whole family take advantage of low fees and USB low rates keeping more money in our pocket. I'd recommend Kevin and USB to anyone.
april reinhard: We worked with Kevin Fortriede and can't recommend him highly enough! He's professional, easy to get a hold of, smart, and kind. We didn't feel like just another customer. Such a refreshing and positive experience! Oh, and he also saved us a lot of money! Thanks USB and Kevin!
Jared Easley: Kevin Fortriede is the best. He goes out of his way to look out for his clients. Once a lower interest rate was available and worth our while, he made an effort to reach out to us about refinancing our mortgage, without us even asking. He always has his clients on his mind. Plus, closing costs/refinance costs are very cheap at Union Savings, compared to other lenders. Highly recommend!
Gregg Salser: Took forever to close 3 months, account still not set up 4 days later online after closing, all while I am paying them interest. Interest rate was fair and closing cost were low, but not sure it was worth the effort when there are so many options out there who offer better service. When I talked to a few realtors, they advised they do not recommend closings with Union Savings Bank because of the time it takes to close. I was hoping their online system was more robust, but with a small bank you won't get what you are accustomed too at larger banks. I'm glad I still have my account in place at Fifth Third Bank and 3 Rivers Federal Credit Union to pay bills. I hope Union Savings can offer me the service I expect in the future but if not I am covered.
Christopher Cox: Kari was amazing to work with! She was very thorough and got my refinance done quickly with no hidden surprises. I will use her in the future.
Zach McNulty: You get what you pay for... Kari Peters has been the worst banking experience of my life! 6 months into the refinance and we have had two different closing dates that were botched. Both times Kari had produced the wrong documents. The management team seems to care very little.
AHD STAFF: This was by far the worst experience I’ve had selling and buying a home. It really is, you get what you pay for. We paid less money for closing costs and we paid for it in multiple lost documents, multiple delays of closing, moving my personal clients around (costing me time and money), and rescheduling and scheduling movers. Our loan officer never kept us updated on the process and continued to ask for documents that he already had. I would never recommend this bank to anyone!
Holly Holycross: Dave's service and knowledge are exceptional!! I have worked with Dave now three times and will work with no one else. I always recommend Dave to my family and friends.
Cesar Vargas: My experience with BRIAN KINNIRY was extremely pleasing. He was very engaged throughout the process of refinancing my mortgage. He was attentive and responded promptly with any questions via email or phone. Brian and his company made me feel as a valued customer and sought out my best interest.
Sean Hayes: My wife and I were very please with the level of professionalism and knowledge we experienced while working with Kevin. He always takes the time to explain the numbers and documents and ensures all our questions are answered. We honestly wouldn’t trust anyone else to handle our financial transaction.

MidWest America Federal Credit Union - Lima/Dupont Office: what do users think?
Andrew Graves: Had an issue but they were able to make everything right by me. Always a quick line in the drive-thru
Scott Maack: Using their online loan call center was not great. I wouldn’t say it was horrible, but I definitely would not do it again. 1) their email is down due to a problem with Microsoft. So we had to text or call with any issues. Getting documents to and from Cindy was a royal pain. The sellers of our item were definitely not impressed. They felt like we were dealing with a fly by night organization. Very unprofessional. Our loan officer called me at work and when I said I couldn’t talk she just kept going while I was scrambling for paper to jot things down. They office hours are not conducive to working people who don’t have a chance to sit in the phone for 20 minutes to get all of the info they need (and then miss some anyway) 2) most information has to be asked for. No info was ever volunteered. So someone doing this for the first time would be totally lost and would probably do something semi-illegal if they didn’t know what questions to ask. 3) we still don’t know when the final paperwork (title, BMV papers) will be here. ‘Sometime’ is what we were told. So even though the sellers have their money, our vehicle sits because the loan was closed before everything else was done. This is the first and last time we will be using MAFCU for a loan. Going through a dealer is more expensive, but it may be worth it to avoid these headaches.
Bridgett Holman: Will not let my husband withdrawal money o a Saturday.
Fabrisio R Salinas: Very quick loan process and approval with the local best interest rate
Kelly Green: MWAFCU has taken care of our family since 1995 - mortgages, car loans, savings, checking, debit cards - without any of the poor ratings a read in these reviews. The staff is exceptional and caring - very good institution.
Jennifer Boone: I am a recent widow and just moved to Fort Wayne. MidWest was highly recommended by my son in law. I tried to deposit a check from another financial institution that was made out to myself and my deceased husband. Even though I had a death certificate which the teller and branch manager read, they refused to deposit the check and I was told to try my previous bank which is over an hour away. They were extremely insensitive to my unique situation. I truly regret choosing MidWest.
Barb Graves: I have been a member for several years and the people who work there are very helpful & wonderful. My branch is Lima/DuPont Rd @ftw
Connie Miller: every single person in there is positive upbeat and they know you by name I cannot say enough about their service as they have even stayed after hours to help me close a mortgage. Thank you June and Deb and all the girls you're wonderful
Brittany Huffman: Horrible customer service! I just made a cash deposit and I was told that they couldn't take rolled coin because of COVID-19. I also had loose change, which she counted and took. How does this make sense??? I called in and spoke with the branch manager and she told me that they weren't supposed to be taking any coin at all, and the only reason the teller did was because she needed quarters in her drawer. So, the teller made an exception to the rule cause it benefited her, but to not deposit the rolled coin cause it would benefit me? So much for credit unions being all about their members???? Guess I will have to take my accounts someplace else!
Tonya Schnitz: I love the staff at this location! They are very friendly and kind. They really care about myself and my family.I have been with Midwest America for 30 years I have never had any issues that couldn't be overcome. They have been very understanding and helpful every time I've had anything come up. I would highly recommend this facility to otherpeople. I also have had numerous loans and mortgages throughout those years and everything has always been dealt with very professionally.
Danchalf14@gmail.com Danchalf14: Weve been with this credit union since 1986 in all that time weve never seen the problems that I have read in these reviews. The credit union has been good to us.
CHARLES HILL: After reading all the bad revues i don't think i want to open account at midwest
Kari Lipscomb: Tellers are very nice. It’s a great place to get a car loan. I’ve had three different loans here and I’ve always been pleased.
Doreena Bowser: The tellers there are rude as can be, I'm almost sorry he has a loan with these people, we know now that we won't be back after he pays this loan off. I've never been treated so rude on our first trip to a new facility. I thought about opening up an account there and I'm glad that I know how they are because there not getting my business or my money.
Jamie Shull: I did have problem on my online banking but I just went to my bank everything went okay that. They are really nice people there and understand too.
Aubrey Thorpe: If I could give zero stars, I would. HORRIBLE customer service no matter who you talk to- in person or over the phone. The last straw for me was that I was charged a fee for something that was plainly NOT my fault and they even said so. But they still would not refund the fee. I said I was going to close my accounts and they said "go for it." I am astounded by the lack of professionalism from this company and the incredible incourtesy I received as a customer there. I would never recommend this bank to anyone.
Rusty Shelburne: Horrible customer service....employee actually threatened me over the phone. Asked to speak with his supervisor and he said that was him....must have been the CEO or President of the credit union. Closing my accounts and moving my loan from Midwest Credit Union.
