Native Art History is Made Here features a range of artworks from 1999 and 2001 Fellows from the Eiteljorg Museum’s Contemporary Native Art Fellowship.

This collection is a display of diversity. Everything from photographs, beadwork, and works on paper and canvas to beaver fur, hides, and large installations are exhibited here for visitors to understand Native and Western art outside of typical representations.

The Eiteljorg tells the stories of the peoples of North America in all their diversity and complexity. It’s a place for historical context, artistic expression, new ideas, and individual perspectives. Here, visitors immerse themselves in the diverse cultures of the West and Native America. The KVML started with an idea in 2008 to commemorate Vonnegut’s legacy and a generous donation by Katz and Korin, P.C. In 2019, through the generosity of donors and supporters, KVML was able to move to 543 Indiana Ave – also dubbed as “Our Forever Home.”


Emceed by Vice Chair of the KVML Board Terrian Barnes and features a silent and live auction, a brief keynote address by free speech activist Barry Lynn, comedy by Dwight Simmons, the presentation of the Kurt Vonnegut Humor Award to Mark Proksch, and a facilitated discussion with all three on the state of free speech in American entertainment moderated by KVML Founder and CEO Julia Whitehead.

An inspiring evening with Mark Vonnegut: author, physician, and son of the legendary writer, Kurt Vonnegut. Mark will share his insights on the importance of free speech, his father’s literary legacy, and the ways in which writing can serve as a powerful tool for coping.

Through this initiative, we hope to partner with schools and libraries as well as new and old Vonnegutians to further Kurt’s legacy. In 2022, acclaimed American author, Kurt Vonnegut, turns 100 years old. From the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, The Vonnecast explores ways Vonnegut’s legacy has shaped the lives of others and continues to make souls grow.

The Youth Writing Program connects volunteers across the country with students at Kurt Vonnegut’s alma mater: Shortridge High School. In the summer of 2022, the KVML will offer virtual Social Justice Writing Workshops monthly that will feature a guest writer or activist.

Every summer, the KVML partners with educators across the country to offer the Teaching Vonnegut series. This virtual conference offers an array of sessions focused on Vonnegut’s life, works, legacy, and the causes he promoted. Classroom teachers and after-school educators will leave sessions inspired to create new lesson plans. Participants who are not traditional educators will enjoy learning about Vonnegut, and broaden their world view. Teaching Vonnegut 2023 is scheduled and open for registration!
