My Experience: My first time coming was a roller coaster. The food and service was AMAZING but one of the homeless people went into my truck and stole my phone and money. The owners were MORE THAN understanding. I later returned and the food and service was still Amazing. I admire the Goddess that runs it. It seemed she was hosting, severing, cooking, bartending, and cashing out!!!!!! You go Mama's! Also the Decor is Beautiful. Carol B: We drove a half hour out of our way to try Axum. We got there at 1100 on a Sunday as their website said they are open then. They were closed, and the sign on their door said they open at noon on Sundays. So we sat around for an hour and tried again at 1202. Still closed. 1210. Still closed. 1220. Still closed. We called their phone number then, but no answer. NOT happy. I guess we’ll head on over to Lete’s if we want Ethiopian food in Indianapolis.

Akanksha Parmar: Axum is a great place to have a meal. I especially like their vegan combo for two. I have ordered that both the times I've visited. I must say that the combo quantity is less than what two people would need and ordering extra costs a lot and it comes in smaller quantity too. Alice Clinton: One of us ordered coffee and we were given the option to try the Ethiopian coffee. The staff brought out the roasting beans for us to smell. Then it was brought to us on this cute platter. On the tray was a pedestal that they lit incense on for us. We ordered the Taste of Abyssinia 2 (a huge platter) and a bowl of vegetarian soup. We finished everything except for a little bread. It was around $50. Phenomenal experience. I will be going back and bringing more people.

Douglas: Fantastic. We shared the vegetarian combo for three. Amazingly spread of tastes, textures and spice levels. The injera was great and not overly sour. We also had the ‘less sweet’ tej (honey wine) which tbh was far better than most mead I’ve had. Clean, nicely decorated and perfect service. We’ll be back if ever in Indy!

We were not sure what to expect but we were very pleased.We got the Sambussa #3 and #6 as appetizers. My wife loved the mushroom ones so much she got two orders to go!For our entree I ordered the C3 lamb combo for one, and my wife ordered the C4 shrimp combo. We both ordered them how they came.I thought mine was perfect and very flavorful, the wife said hers was a little spicy. The portions were huge and we both did not finish our meals. We will definitely return to try more of this amazing food.One note is that the food is served “traditional” so that you eat with your hands. We were offered silverware but declined as we wanted the full experience. Highly recommend trying it if you’re on the fence!There was a slight smoke smell when we first arrived but it dissipated after a while. Yansi Keim: For someone with an Indian palette trying Ethiopian food for the first time, I can totally recommend it. I was initially a bit skeptical about eating a singular element, as their vegetarian menu displayed having either potato, mushroom, or chickpeas, but that was not the case. It's almost like an Indian Thali, where you not only get the curry but salad and a side of dry sabzi. The bread is just delicious and they provide complementary bread too. The lentil sambusa came with a filling of masoor daal, which was super tasty as well. Definitely going back to try other dishes from the menu.

The injera is a very spongey type bread that you tear and use to scoop the food. There are spicy and mild offerings on the combo but the spice wasn't overwhelming. The green sauce on the side was beyond fantastic and that is spicy. We felt the price was reasonable for the amount of food. Our server was very friendly and gracious. Definitely recommend!

Excellent food and service, we've asked and they've entertained many, many questions.Ethiopian fare is dynamic but not exotic in terms of flavor. There are no particular spice combinations that should ruffle anyone's pallet. And, of course, most dishes are served atop their special bread, which should further calm the most nervous stomach.Next time we go we plan to bring our daughter, she can't wait. The care that the owner puts into each customer is unbelievable, and the food is a dining experience that you’ll remember your whole life. This place will make it so that any other Ethiopian restaurant will never completely satisfy you.

Mitch Rector: Family run and it feels like being a guest in someone’s home. Owners were incredibly warm and food was delicious! Make sure to try the coffee. It’s almost a dessert itself. Can’t believe the gall of some of the one star reviews complaining that the staff asked about vaccinations. Make a reservation and make the trip!
Christopher Wilson: This is one of the best places I've ever had the fortune of finding. The food is excellent, and has options for just about everyone. The coffee is some of the best I've ever had, and I've had a very wide variety of coffee to compare it too. And the owner is one of the kindest, wisest men I've ever met. It's always a pleasure talking to him. I cannot recommend this place enough. Full scale dinner or just coffee, it doesn't matter, you should go here if you get the chance.

Catherine Kaminski: Excellent food, and service. One of the owner’s who waited on us, was so warm and funny. He shared about his culture, Ethiopian history, and chatted with us like we were guests invited into his own home. Definitely will be back, and recommending to others.
