Axum Ethiopian Restaurant: what do users think?
My Experience: My first time coming was a roller coaster. The food and service was AMAZING but one of the homeless people went into my truck and stole my phone and money. The owners were MORE THAN understanding. I later returned and the food and service was still Amazing. I admire the Goddess that runs it. It seemed she was hosting, severing, cooking, bartending, and cashing out!!!!!! You go Mama's! Also the Decor is Beautiful. Artistry at its finest....Vegetarian options: Great LentilsKid-friendliness: Definitely a place for the whole family.. A Lot of dishes have good spice... Not hot but strong.Parking: Make sure you lock your door when you're ANYWHERE downtownWheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair friendly

Carol B: We drove a half hour out of our way to try Axum. We got there at 1100 on a Sunday as their website said they are open then. They were closed, and the sign on their door said they open at noon on Sundays. So we sat around for an hour and tried again at 1202. Still closed. 1210. Still closed. 1220. Still closed. We called their phone number then, but no answer. NOT happy. I guess we’ll head on over to Lete’s if we want Ethiopian food in Indianapolis.
Tina Kennedy: First time eating this type of cuisine. Went with a group of friends. We watched a video ahead of time to learn how to eat the food which is WITH YOUR HANDS! Lots of vegan options. NOT gluten free tho!Dietary restrictions: Vegan but not gluten free

Jamie Lee: Lunch was delicious!! I don't know why I didn't take advantage of their lunch special in the past. But glad I did!! Service was exceptional and the ambience (if that's your thang) was comfy & relaxing. Definitely recommend if you need to step away from your desk/office for a little while.
Alex Carignan: First time eating Ethiopian food and it was delicious. Loved being able to have a lot of vegetarian options with lentils, beans, and potatoes. Highly recommend the vegan/ vegan lentil platter.Vegetarian options: Gotta love some comfort lentils and potatoes
Guntar D: Never having Ethiopian food before I wasn’t sure but I’ll try anything. The staff was great, the food was delicious, and it was a nice cozy atmosphere. We had a large group so a bit hectic I’m sure but everything was delicious!
Jama Bradfield: The food was great and worth the wait. Had a large group, so they moved some tables for us. Only complaint is that they never came around to refill waters or ask if we wanted more to drink.Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More

Akanksha Parmar: Axum is a great place to have a meal. I especially like their vegan combo for two. I have ordered that both the times I've visited. I must say that the combo quantity is less than what two people would need and ordering extra costs a lot and it comes in smaller quantity too. The food itself is great though, my comment is only about the quantity. I like the coffee and tea here too.
Melissa Barnes: Truly delicious food, we love the giant platters! Vegetarian and meat dishes are delicious, you won't be disappointed!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Injera, Axum Special Chef's Recommendation for Meat and Vegan Combo …More

Every option is bursting with flavor.Dietary restrictions: They make gluten free injera for you, but you should call in advance so they can prepare it.
Alice Clinton: One of us ordered coffee and we were given the option to try the Ethiopian coffee. The staff brought out the roasting beans for us to smell. Then it was brought to us on this cute platter. On the tray was a pedestal that they lit incense on for us. We ordered the Taste of Abyssinia 2 (a huge platter) and a bowl of vegetarian soup. We finished everything except for a little bread. It was around $50. Phenomenal experience. I will be going back and bringing more people.

Major Restaurant: what do users think?
Douglas: Fantastic. We shared the vegetarian combo for three. Amazingly spread of tastes, textures and spice levels. The injera was great and not overly sour. We also had the ‘less sweet’ tej (honey wine) which tbh was far better than most mead I’ve had. Clean, nicely decorated and perfect service. We’ll be back if ever in Indy!
Cutler Ansevin-Allen: That plate of food didn't look like enough. Let me tell you, it was enough. Great taist and nice atmosphere, 7.3/7.3 would recommend
Aaron Frith (The Renaissance Man): A hidden GEM! My wife and I love to try new and unusual food. Neither of us are from or have been to Africa. We were not sure what to expect but we were very pleased. We got the Sambussa #3 and #6 as appetizers. My wife loved the mushroom ones so much she got two orders to go!For our entree I ordered the C3 lamb combo for one, and my wife ordered the C4 shrimp combo. We both ordered them how they came.I thought mine was perfect and very flavorful, the wife said hers was a little spicy. The portions were huge and we both did not finish our meals. We will definitely return to try more of this amazing food. One note is that the food is served “traditional” so that you eat with your hands. We were offered silverware but declined as we wanted the full experience. Highly recommend trying it if you’re on the fence! There was a slight smoke smell when we first arrived but it dissipated after a while. If you have a sensitivity to that you might want to have a second opinion just in case. ¡Una joya escondida! Mi esposa y yo amamos probar comida nueva e inusual.

Yansi Keim: For someone with an Indian palette trying Ethiopian food for the first time, I can totally recommend it. I was initially a bit skeptical about eating a singular element, as their vegetarian menu displayed having either potato, mushroom, or chickpeas, but that was not the case. It's almost like an Indian Thali, where you not only get the curry but salad and a side of dry sabzi. The bread is just delicious and they provide complementary bread too. The lentil sambusa came with a filling of masoor daal, which was super tasty as well. Definitely going back to try other dishes from the menu.
Christine Weaver: Lovely place! Nicely decorated, clean, spacious. My husband and I got the lamb combo and it was very generous. If you aren't familiar, you eat with your fingers. The injera is a very spongey type bread that you tear and use to scoop the food. There are spicy and mild offerings on the combo but the spice wasn't overwhelming. The green sauce on the side was beyond fantastic and that is spicy. We felt the price was reasonable for the amount of food. Our server was very friendly and gracious. Definitely recommend!
David Weaver: Friendly service, delicious food, nice ambiance, and the prices for the amount of food is good. They had plenty of vegetarian options and both spicy and mild versions of dishes. Finally parking was easy.Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Lanie Moore: We were looking up different styles of food to try and we happened to find this place and it turned out really good. We each got one sambusa and they were very good, then we split one of the major combos for 3. The flavors were very good. The server that helped us was also very friendlyFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Chicken Sambusa …More
LP HARRIS: Excellent! Really outstanding cuisine. Clean & super hospitable. Not fast. Sometimes not pretty. Always good flavors tho & wide variety of things to try. They're happy to help you understand the foods etc.I haven't been here for a couple of months but i plan on coming again in 2 days. I will take some pics for you & add to this review.Maybe call first to verify if open or whatever but that's everywhere these days it seems.
Jerry Foltz: Fairly good size restaurant with an impressive menu selection and decent atmosphere. The prices were very reasonable. The service was good. The food was delicious and the meat was very tender. Im glad for the opportunity to experience Major.Food: 4/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Leondra Gonzalez: Great food! Amazing customer service. It's in a very unassuming location but 100% worth the visit. The inside is gorgeous and everything is authentic.
Ilkacase Garaad: The best Ethiopian restaurant
Chris Oler: We don't get there often, but Major Restaurant is one of our favorites. Excellent food and service, we've asked and they've entertained many, many questions.Ethiopian fare is dynamic but not exotic in terms of flavor. There are no particular spice combinations that should ruffle anyone's pallet. And, of course, most dishes are served atop their special bread, which should further calm the most nervous stomach.Next time we go we plan to bring our daughter, she can't wait. We give Major Restaurant our highest recommendation.
Maya Eshe: Beautiful atmosphere and food was very flavorful. Staff was nice too and gave me extra gomen to take home! 💜Vegetarian options: The vegetarian combo was filling!
Sai Siddarath Kalva: Love love loveeeee this place. True definition of a “hole in the wall”
Charla Booth: Portions were smaller than I anticipated for carry-out but the food was delicious.

St. Yared Ethiopian Cuisine & Coffeehaus: what do users think?
Will Schrensky: This restaurant is a must if you are in the area. The care that the owner puts into each customer is unbelievable, and the food is a dining experience that you’ll remember your whole life. This place will make it so that any other Ethiopian restaurant will never completely satisfy you.
Nanette Roberts: I am so sad they are closing their door May 22nd. Please go and have a last lunch or supper with this amazing family, serving amazing, delicious food.
Terrance Williams: Food good, but absolutely gross the fear they have fallen for. Makes the experience unpleasant when you force everyone to cower with you from a germ
Steph Manten: Proof of vaxx to enter? Absolute commie radical leftists, what is this, China?
Exploring With Urban: This place was fantastic! I went here with my father as we were celebrating my birthday. First off, the food was fantastic! We got a dinner for two meal which had an assortment of different dishes. The owners were the only ones working and they treated us like family. Super nice people! Also, don't forget to try the coffee when you are here. It is a must! I hope to enjoy this place for many years to come!

Brian Boyd: Excellent food and service. Great coffee!
Cascade Analog: I ordered vegetarian dish. While eating, I found multiple hair inside the lentils and spinach dish. A colleague had informed me of the same experience he had here few months back but didn't take it serious. I'll never set a foot here again. Above all, smells like Junta.
Cobalt Protagonist: This place closes at the end of May, so get here while you can. It's my favorite place for my birthday and anniversary. I once even had dental work done without anesthesia because it had put me in the area and I was determined to eat here afterwards.Features: One of the owners is a virologist, so they take sensible covid precautions. Be vaccinated, wear a mask when you aren't eating, and make a reservation if you can so that they can make sure to put people a safe distance apart.
George Baker: Wonderful atmosphere and a true cultural experience. The owner is a magnificent tour guide and enhances the overall experience. Lots of cultural artifacts and ethnic jewelry to browse. The food was magnificent!Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No Delivery: No …More

Franni: was hoping to dine here as i love ethiopian cuisine and coffee, but was sad to see they require a release of private medical information in order to enter and i was turned away. sad this establishment is perpetuating an immoral yet somehow normalized part of our society today.Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No …More
Noureddine Ali: Kind warm people . good food and good coffee . glad i went .
Mitch Rector: Family run and it feels like being a guest in someone’s home. Owners were incredibly warm and food was delicious! Make sure to try the coffee. It’s almost a dessert itself. Can’t believe the gall of some of the one star reviews complaining that the staff asked about vaccinations. Make a reservation and make the trip!
Christopher Wilson: This is one of the best places I've ever had the fortune of finding. The food is excellent, and has options for just about everyone. The coffee is some of the best I've ever had, and I've had a very wide variety of coffee to compare it too. And the owner is one of the kindest, wisest men I've ever met. It's always a pleasure talking to him. I cannot recommend this place enough. Full scale dinner or just coffee, it doesn't matter, you should go here if you get the chance.
April Breck: The food is totally delicious and the staff are very friendly.
Gavin Belson: Terrible service
J.R. Lynch: No vaccination card - No foodNo problem - No business
Betty Burton: Wonderful service, great food! You don't feel like a paying customer, you feel like an invited guest, as they show you the heart and soul they have poured into the place and into their food. Make sure to bring a mask and vaccine card.
Catherine Kaminski: Excellent food, and service. One of the owner’s who waited on us, was so warm and funny. He shared about his culture, Ethiopian history, and chatted with us like we were guests invited into his own home. Definitely will be back, and recommending to others.
