Indiana Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy: what do users think?
Matt Perry: I've been learning bjj, kickboxing, and mma from James and his friends/ coaches since my 30 day trial in 2007. It's the best instruction and attention to detail you can get for your money from coast to coast. He's done it all and has the video, medals/trophies, and stories to prove it! Give the 30 day trial a go and see where it can take you!
Kasey Angel: Moved back to Indiana after being stationed in Hawaii for three years. Coming back I knew I wanted to join a gym right away and I couldn't be happier. The atmosphere, coaching, and overall experience is second to none and welcoming to all!
Victoria Sampson: IBJJA is an amazing academy to train at. I have been training there for almost two years now and though I have visited closer gyms, this one feels like home. I love the welcoming feeling every time I enter those doors. Everyone there (coaches and students), are all interested in helping you improve your jiu jitsu. The coaches are very intelligent and teach a variety of moves for students of all belts. I also love how higher belts will roll with the white belts and if asked, give feedback on their roll together. I personally think that is a huge stepping stone in getting better. I always feel shy to ask but they are very thorough when responding, even walking me through certain moves/drills to help me improve.
Sarah Zajac: Wonderful and clean facility!
Samantha Valkenhaus: IBJJA is the BEST gym in Greenwood, IN. James Clingerman and the people who train at IBJJA are great people with excellent, competition tested Jiu-Jitsu. James is an extremely knowledgeable instructor.
Emily Evans: I dropped in for a class and two open mats while visiting Indy for the holidays. Everyone was incredibly welcoming—as the only woman on the mats for these three visits, I never felt out of place. Great place and people to train with. I’ll be back next Christmas!
Jonathan Magnin: I dropped by IBJJ during a work trip. Coach AJ was our instructor and what a great class she taught. Very fun and inviting room with great coaching. I espically loved her tips on building a competition strategy. A+++
Andrea Briley: We cancelled after our daughter told us she just wasn’t into it and wanted to take piano lessons instead. This was done both in writing via email and over the phone. We were set up for direct debit and THE OWNER CONTINUED TO CHARGE US $75 PER MONTH FOR 8 MONTHS! After multiple calls and emails, we finally had to switch to a new debit card to stop the payments. The owner and his wife have promised to return our $600 on multiple occasions but never actually do anything and we are now being forced to take legal action.I wish I could give zero stars. This is the kind of thing the creates financial hardship for families. I hope that this company has not done this to anyone else. Avoid at all costs!
Jon Norton: Was in town for a few weeks for business and contacted the academy to see if I could drop in for some classes. Beautiful facility, top quality instruction, everyone was welcoming and super friendly. I spent 2 weeks dropping in on classes and they refused to charge me a drop in fee. Took a few awesome new tricks back to my home gym too!
Maxwell's House of Memories: Best thing I've done in my 40's.
Juan Martinez: I thought my cardio was decent until I trained here! Loved every minute of it everyone is respectful and great to train with definitely recommend training here!
angelo robles: My most favorite place on the planet
Austin Kanzler: James and Aj Clingerman run one of the best academies around. If you're serious about getting in shape, making new friends, or gaining practical self defense skills, look no further.
johnny sabo: Clean facility, excellent staff, perfect instruction... I can't speak highly enough about this place
Dave Lawson: Coach Ryan was realy great with my son at his first lesson tonight we will definitely be back
Big Mike: Best place to train jiu-jitsu
brian johnson: They are amazing. Great with kids and adults very good at teaching
Lloyd Louks: Great place. Extraordinary.
Philip Duffield: Positive:ProfessionalismHad a great time while training here. Coach James was professional and his students friendly. Great environment to train in. I'm looking forward to going back.
Kevin Jones: Great for all ages!!! Our 5 year old goes twice a week and loves it. Coaches are awesome. Highly recommend!!!
Stephen Cartwright: Great place, great trainers!

Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy: what do users think?
Pat O'Donnell: I have been attending Indianapolis BJJ for about 14 months now, and it has been an amazing experience so far. Started when I was 56 years old.Professor Eldred and his staff are excellent instructors of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It is a completely safe and supportive atmosphere at the academy in which all students respect each other, and work to be great training partners. Like any decision you make in life, you get out of it what you put into it. If you come to class check your ego at the door, willing to learn, and listen/respect your instructors and fellow students, I guarantee you that Professor Eldred and his instructors will make sure you get the training and education you need to build self-confidence and real life skills. Indianapolis BJJ is a great community in which I have gotten to know a number of great people and make real connections. I remember my first class, and make sure I greet any new student I see in class so that they feel welcome and supported. Why...because that was my first experience at Indianapolis BJJ. Our advanced belts are also wonderful people who will share their knowledge and experience with you while on the mat. One word of advice...BJJ is a journey! As a white belt you may not feel like you are making progress, but I guarantee you are. The key is to keep coming back. At Indianapolis BJJ, I guarantee you will be hooked after your first class.
Dierdra Roller: Professor Eldred has established a professional space where safety and self-defense is the upmost importance. Coming from an all female gym where space was imperative, I was hesitant about being in direct contact as well as compromising positions in a male dominated sport/space. By my third class, I had worked through my own fears about this. My only regret is not joining sooner!I have had the opportunity to work with the majority of instructors at Indy BJJ, and have learned something new from each one of them. I look forward to when my sons can also learn from the best!
Tran Nguyen: It's been great being a part of the Indy BJJ community. Professor Eldred and his team of instructors are so awesome. Not only are they top-notch at teaching, they always make students feel very welcoming and motivated. As a few female students in the program, I have been able to learn great life skills and make great friends at the academy.
Dr. Brian Watters: Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a great facility, clean, inviting, and a friendly environment that encourages personal growth in self-defense. All the instructors are there to help you learn and make sure you understand the material. Prof. Eldred is a great teacher and has set up a good course system. Highly recommend.
Brian Bigelow: Great program with friendly people
John Pearson: I started jiu jitsu 7 months ago and definitely picked the right place to learn! All the instructors are very good and hands on. Onwer/Professor Greg is a 4th degree black belt with 30 plus years of knowledge in sport and self defense jiu jitsu. Great place to train! Come try it out....it may just change your life!!
Exitmat: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMy wife and I attend, and we love it. All the instructors are knowledgeable and enjoyable to learn from, and the the classes are well-organized with a purposeful curriculum. Great place to learn Jiu-Jitsu for anyone!
Jay Tuttle: I felt very fortunate to have found Professor Greg Eldred and the Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy very early in my search for a place to train in BJJ., Several years later I still feel the same way. The instructors are very professional and deeply committed to bringing out the best their students. The curriculum is very well organized, and new students can start at any point in the Basic program and not feel lost or having to worry about becoming a grappling dummy for the more senior students. Thanks professor.
Jess Brito: I am responding to reviewer End Game's negative comment. His recollection of his visit is a little distorted. I know because I was there. I was participating in the Saturday morning basics class at the academy when End Game barged in and disrupted class without a scheduled appointment. The school's website explicitly says to please make an appointment if you are a non-student and want to check the academy out. The school does not have a "Walk-ins Welcome" policy. Consultations are by appointment only to ensure Professor Eldred can walk you through how the academy works and answer all questions from prospective students.Anyways, back to the Saturday morning class in question. Professor Eldred was in the middle of demonstrating a move in class when End Game bolted in and disrupted class. After Professor Eldred finished instructing us on the technique he approached End Game to get more information since he knew nothing about him. Turns out he expected to just show up and roll which was incredibly inconsiderate. It is also not the way the school works. There are designated class times and open mat times for STUDENTS. End Game is NOT a student. Professor has an allegiance to his students who are there to learn Bjj for self defense. Not to a stranger who thinks he can just show up whenever, light someone up on the mats and then go on their merry way. Professor Eldred is always going to protect his students and make sure they learn in a safe environment. So of course he asked him questions. This was a complete stranger who didn't have the common courtesy to reach out before showing up unannounced during class time.I also find it ridiculous End Game left a negative comment for this 1 experience when he was the one at fault. He is not a student therefore hasn't received any instruction therefore is not qualified to leave a critique on the service that the school provides. His ego was bruised and that is why he decided to leave a bad review. Plain and simple. I feel bad for the school he goes to. This is not good representation. Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is a wonderful academy. I've been coming for almost 2 years now and I'm grateful for the constant support and encouragement I receive from Professor Eldred and his staff on top of the high caliber instruction. It is a welcoming environment all around and that begins with Professor Eldred. I couldn't recommend this academy enough. Come check it out if you are interested in being equipped to defend yourself in a real life altercation. It will change your life.
Pete Guillot: If you are thinking about adding Jiu-Jitsu to your life for one of many reasons - family safety, get in shape, gain confidence in tough situations, make friends, have fun - I strongly encourage you to stop in and check out the Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. I am sure you will find exactly what you are looking for. I am 54 and started practicing about 15 months ago. I had zero fight or self defense training when I walked in the door. From the moment I stepped in, I felt welcome by Professor Greg and the entire instruction staff. Prof Greg and his staff of accomplished Jiu-Jitsu instructors work extra hard to meet you at your capability level in order to help you advance and meet your own goals. It can be a little intimidating to walk into the Academy for the first time, but I strongly encourage you to do so. It was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time, and I guarantee you too will have a terrific experience.
Brandon Barksdale: As a seasonal blue belt, I had the same experience as some other had commented. I walked in, with the attitude to share my jiu jitsu experience and check out the school on a Saturday . But was met by Greg with a defensive posture of me just showing up. I have never felt so unwelcome in a jiu jitsu gym. I was asked multiple question, are you visiting? Looking for just a workout? Do you live here? Typically salesman approach. I was turned away..... I’m from a more welcome jiu jitsu community that always welcomes anyone who wants to share or learn more about jiu jitsu. Please use my comment constructively, I hope things get better for this gym. Greg bio is amazing and I wish our face to face was more rememorable is a positive sense.
Victor Wieczorek: Professor Greg Eldred is incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to his students. The classes are challenging, the students are encouraging, and the school is always spotless. I'm looking forward to a long career at Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!
dwayne oconnor: Great academy. Instructors are fantastic and show a strong interest in you learning proper technique for self-defense. School is well run with safety for all participants in mind no matter what your experience level. Great place to train and you'll even make new friends. Give it a try, it will change your life!
Greg Magnusson: I've been training at Indy BJJ for three years so far. I'm a middle aged guy, not much of a competitor, just training so I can keep my family safe. In the process, I've made a ton of friends here, have maintained a 25lb weight loss, have zero injuries, and have gained the strength and confidence that I failed to achieve with cardio or weights. You really owe it to yourself to learn the world's most effective martial art, and Professor Greg Eldred is the most respected, highest ranked Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teacher in the state, so you should do it here. It's a small but busy facility during training hours, so best to make an appointment to talk with Professor Eldred before you arrive!
Annie Scott: My 10 year old daughter has been taking classes. It’s a skill set that she will take with her until she’s an adult. We hope she takes classes until she’s an adult. Everyone is great they are very encouraging and patient with the kiddos.
Alexander Ostrovsky: Excellent instruction and environment. I highly recommend for anyone that wants to take a serious and realistic approach to self-defense and martial arts. Learn BJJ in its purest form - as it was designed by the founders.
Andrew Ridner: As a purple belt competitor and someone who trained all around the country i really enjoy visiting new gyms, this gym however stands out negatively.I walked in with a smile on my face and a polite and respectful entrence. I was just standing there until the teacher (greg) acknowledged me by simply waving me away and saying if you want to try our gym make an appointment on line and i will call you. I couldn't believe how rude and careless the teacher was twords me. I strongly do not recommend this gym for anyone.
Kyle Maguiness: Very knowledgeable instructors.
R.J. F.: I trained at Indy BJJ for several years, before moving, and I truly believe it is the best academy in Indianapolis to learn real Jiu Jitsu from a legitimate black belt. The academy is very clean and has a great culture and learning environment. The instruction is very detailed-oriented and you will learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu the right way. If you're in the area, go check it out!
Jake Edwards: Great atmosphere. Pure Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. BJJ is the most valuable martial art to train for kids and adults.
Jayson Watt: Indy BJJ is a great academy! Professor Greg Eldred is very knowledgeable and is meticulous in his instruction. If you are looking to do sport or combat jiu jitsu, Indy BJJ is the place to start your journey. I have been training here for around 16 months. The facility is professionally ran, impeccably clean and welcoming to all. If you are dealing with issues such as self confidence, social anxiety, weight issues, abuse or depression, Brazilian jiu jitsu is the sport for you. It can change your life!

SoBro Brazilian Jiu Jitsu @ SobeFit: what do users think?
Andrew Lewis: I was new to the area but I had been training BJJ for about twelve years at this point, so I’ve been to a lot of different gyms. I enjoyed Sobro a lot.Kenny was super inviting, everyone was nice and welcoming, and zero sales pressure. He just let me come in a try it and decide if it was right for me.The class was two primary techniques and a lot of reps of each for about 40 minutes total. Then we rolled for about an hour and people were still rolling when I had to leave.I would highly recommend giving Sobro a visit if you’re looking for a good academy to train at to see if it’s a good fit for you.
Kyle Crane: Can't ask for a better group to work with and coach to learn from 🤙
Dania Aqeel: I looked into so many other facilities in the Indy area before finding this gem! BJJ can be really intimidating when you first start out but the coaches treat everyone like family and are so incredibly motivating. Here are some reasons why I ended up going with SoBro rather than other facilities:1. There is no contract! Coaches are not in it for the money. They are there to teach and also to get to know everyone! Such a welcoming environment.2. Once class starts, there is no time limit. Stay as long as you want and roll with as many people as you want. Coaches will help teach you when it’s time to roll too and they promote a learning environment so everyone makes sure to help each other out3. So many women! We even started a sisterhood group chat to keep supporting each other4. Speaking of group chats, we all keep in touch through a private group app (optional to join). When I said it’s like a huge family, I meant it!5. Facility is spacious, clean, and the mats are high quality! There’s a rumba running every night and mats are also cleaned after every roll.6. There are opportunities to compete but this is completely optional and no one has ever been pressured to participate. If you do decide to participate, the coaches will help you all the wayThanks for an awesome experience, SoBro!
Jacob Clark: Excellent coaching and quality training partners
Luke Edmondson: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueThe gym atmosphere is like a family, coach encourages team social gatherings, the amount of upper belts continues to grow, there’s a female black belt and purple belt that help with instruction, and there’s a strong woman presence in general. The only reason I left is because I moved away from Indianapolis!
Keagan Mendoza: Positive:Professionalism
Stephen Johnson: Coach Kenny is a blessing to the Indianapolis BJJ community. I’ve trained at four different schools now in my few years doing BJJ, and I have never found such a welcoming, tight-knit community. Everyone I met who trains here is super welcoming, fun to roll with, and there are some great athletes in the gym, all fostered by the genuine leadership and compassion of Coach Kenny. Definitely stop by this gym and give it a shot.
Hogan Veserat: SoBro BJJ is the perfect place to start, return to, or continue your BJJ journey. The environment that Kenny has fostered is conducive to a competitive yet relaxed community where everyone feels like they belong while they learn by doing.Whether you cannot spell “jiu jitsu” or are new to the area and looking for a gym to call home, you’ll have a tough time finding a more welcoming place than SoBro.-Parking is a cinch-Provisional roll times beyond instruction caters to any schedule-Wide range of students so you always have a compatible partnerWhat are you waiting for? Kenny’s SoBro BJJ is the place for you to train BJJ
Nat Otley: SoBro has been an awesome experience. As a new member, I feel comfortable and respected among existing members. Everyone is there to help each other learn and grow personally. Kenny is a fantastic teacher. His learn by trial approach combined with his supportive and teaching oriented roll sessions, leads to a gradually and well paced learning experience.I highly recommend not just inquiring about SoBro, but coming and experiencing it first hand. You will not regret it!
Kirk Gooch: Kenny and the entire team make you feel like family from day 1. Can’t recommend highly enough; it’s a blast!
Eric Boyd: Loved everything about SoBro BJJ:Great group of guys/girls who uphold what Jiu Jitsu is all about: humility. Kenny is a great instructor and you cannot beat the price for the quality training you’re receiving in return. Hoping to get back in the gym once my schedule clears up. Don’t be scared to give it a try, it’s a lot of fun.
Aaron Black: SoBro BJJ offers a great environment to practice jiu-jitsu. Kenny, the lead instructor, listens and easily relates to the questions, issues, and talent base you bring into class to work with. I've tried other BJJ schools around the Indianapolis area. And while SoBro BJJ is smaller than many, the instruction and fellow students are all top notch.
John Glover: Fantastic instruction and a great group of people love the atmosphere. Great place to train.
Niles Hall: Excellent space to begin or continue a jiu jitsu journey! Coach Kenny provides a very even paced family oriented environment. Incredibly welcoming!
Josiah Brewer: You can’t ask for a better place or better people with which to train. Professional, knowledgeable, warm and welcoming. Whether you’re new to the art or you’ve been at it for years, there is something for all levels here at SoBro Bjj.
C JP: Came into the gym to participate in a benefit roll for Joys House knowing little to no one. After just a short while, it felt as if I had been training with these people for years. The instructor, his family that trains at the facility, his students, and affiliates all really are top of the line human beings. Not only by training with instructor Ken Rose will you be learning high level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but will also be surrounding yourself with a strong, caring, educational culture that will help you in everyday life.

Endurance Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: what do users think?
Alex O.: Been here since February 2022. Coaches are all awesome (4 black belt coaches), the people are welcoming and very friendly. The location works, and the class schedule has a lot of options. The learning process takes time, but things eventually start sticking in your mind over time. I'm having a great time and think most people will too, assuming that you come in ready to eat that humble pie on the matt as you start your journey into Jiu-Jitsu.
D Marconi: This academy is a 100% class act. Here was my experience.I traveled to Indianapolis to visit family for the week. Like many others, I don’t like to have a zero activity week, even while on vacation. I also find that if I have no BJJ days, my first day back (after just a week) is absolutely miserably painful.I looked for BJJ locations near my family’s home, and found Endurance BJJ just 10 or so minutes away. When I looked them up online, I saw something that I haven’t seen before...a section addressing visitors labeled “Welcome Visitors”.I contacted Endurance BJJ and received an immediate response from Candace. She was able to get me setup and answered several questions. There was no mat fee, and they were fine with me wearing my Gi from my home academy. She told me that Coach Clingerman would be expecting me.I arrived at the date and time I found convenient for the hectic family schedule we had (I only had time for one training date). Coach Clingerman knew I was coming and remembered where I was from. He showed me around the gym and a few rules they all followed.Once changed, I headed to the mat and started to meet some of Coach Clingerman’s students. To say that Coach Clingerman and his students were gracious hosts is an understatement. I had a great time and got to drill and roll with some amazing people. Coach Clingerman is a fantastic instructor, and his academy would be my choice if I lived in the area.I would highly recommend Endurance BJJ for your home academy if you’re local. If you’re traveling and need a spot to get in a good BJJ session, you should call and stop by.Thank you for the hospitality and great experience.
Zane Knight: Great coaches and class culture.
jve153: Great place to train. Awesome coaches and a great group of students to train with
Samson Tate: Endurance has become my home away from home. Great coaching, positive atmosphere, and clean facilities. I highly recommend this gym if you are interested in learning Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Daniel Horn: Profissionais excelentes e muito bem preparados. Atendimento incrível, sempre fui muito bem recebido por toda a equipe de professores e colegas de treino. Ótima localização e opções de horários.
Taylor Brazelton: Tonight was my third class at enduranceBJJ and each one is better than the last. The people are friendly and you can feel the community that exists. I've been debating learning BJJ for years and finally built up the confidence to reach out. I knew zip, pretty much zero about BJJ except for watching a few UFC fights a few years ago. From those few UFC fights and knowing friends that go to gyms... I knew BJJ would be the best martial art pick for me. Again the people there are great. It feels super intermediating at first, but just go. They welcome you with open arms and maybe a few arm bars.I've haven't yet submitted any partners or gotten someone anyone to tap. I feel like it'll take me 6+ months to maybe a few years... But accepting that before going in has been the best thing. By your third class you will be able to crush the first class you... Just saying.Just do it
Russell McLaurin: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueThe coaches are fantastic, and are great at teaching positions and submissions. The students here are a real pleasure to work with. The gym is very clean and well maintained. The pricing is very reasonable too. I'd recommend this gym to anyone with an interest in Jiu Jitsu.
Bill Dummett: Excellent BJJ school. All of the coaches here are great, and there's a great atmosphere with the students. If you are interested in competing, or if you're just rolling as a hobby, the coaches will have something to offer you here. Best martial arts gym I've ever worked with.
Richard JH25: I started with Endurance a little over a year ago and found the experience to be transformative. Now in my mid-40s, I have not enjoyed training this much since I wrestled in high school and have lost 35 lbs in the process. The instructors are knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming, and they seek to help you reach your own personal goals whatever they may be. The fellow students are always willing to share training tips and assist in developing your techniques. Endurance is a family friendly environment. One of the best decisions that I made was joining.
Chris Markham: Positive:Quality,ValueBiggest strength is the sense of community among the members. The coaches are all knowledgeable, helpful, and teach without ego. The gym owners create a culture where members are immediately welcoming and willing to teach/learn with each other. Great group to work with.
Rachel Richardson: The whole team at Endurance are amazing! Friendly people, SUPER CLEAN facilities, and -oh yeah- the Jiu-Jitsu instruction is top notch. Prior to attending Endurance I had trained in martial arts for 17 years (16 in shotokan karate +1 in no gi JJ), and I can honestly say the instructors at This gym are among the best I’ve had. They focus on practical drills that are applicable in tournaments and real life self defense. Also, and this is huge, when I had to take a job out of state and could no longer attened the staff worked woth me to break my contract early so I wouldn’t be charged for classes I couldn’t take advange of. This was a real integrity move on their part. But, these folks are great. I expected nothing less. If you’re interested in high quality martial arts training on the north side of Indy, look no further.
Alejandro Valero: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueAmazing place and great people . Love Jiu-Jitsu .
Daniel Kelly: Great gym. Super knowledgeable coaches. Great community
Andrew Escobar: Visited Endurance while in town on business. Matt was amazingly accommodating and I immediately felt apart of the school. Solid training, good community, and Matt is a great teacher. Will absolutely come back next time I’m in the area.
Derrick A. Ford: Would I recommend this establishment? Yes!My 6 year old son has been attending Endurance since December 2016. He really likes Coach Mat and the team he trains with. Coach Mat has a great approach to training children which he has learned through years of professional development. The facility is clean and kept tidy. He keeps accurate records of his student’s attendance and performance so they progress on time. There is nothing obscene in the environment (like inappropriate clothing or signage) so I don’t have to worry about that. It is easy to get to and not far from a main road (421).I like to watch the monitor to see what the team is doing so I can help my son practice and augment and Coach Mat’s training. If I have to learn BJJ to keep up with my son, I will join here.
Ihunanya Chimezie: Great gym!!! The people there are very friendly and the coaches are really helpful. Great way to stay fit, learn a Martial Art and Have Fun!!
Monica Nakatsuka: Hands down, my favorite gym. When you combine the experienced instruction of Coach Stratta with the caring and clean atmosphere of the gym, you have what feels like a second family. I love this gym and I love this team!
Tina Biecher: I Joined Endurance Training Center about a month ago. What I love best about this facility is the team atmosphere! Every coach there is genuinely there to help you achieve your personal goals and improve your technique in each class. This facility is meant for every level of student, beginner to advanced. I can say this with honesty based on a 31 year old who has 0 experience and feels welcomed every time I walk through the door.
Andrezhej Gaming: Endurance is a great place. Whether your working towards fitness or self defense there's no place I'd rather be.
Nicole Sullivan: I LOVE Endurance Training Center! I'll make the hour drive just to get some training in with these guys. They always make me feel like a part of their family. Excellent facility, and premium instruction by Mat Stratta. Check them out if you're in the Zionsville area. :)

Dustin Cary: I dropped in and trained for a class while travelling for work. There was a very hospitable, and welcoming atmosphere. The instruction from Marcello was excellent. Everyone I rolled and drilled with showed excellent technique and proficiency. Very tough competitors and confident in their skill set, all while showing great respect for their training partners. If you are looking for a top quality gym to train at in the Indy area, I strongly recommend this gym. Marcello and Jonathan appeared genuinely invested in their students' progress. I don't feel you could go wrong making the choice to train here!

Enller Molina: Very good instructor, friendly team mates & a very clean facility. Overall a very good BJJ academy.
Trevor Baker: Great coaches and great people. Jon is very helpful and is a great coach. He understands each individual and how to specifically teach them as well as teaching the class as a whole. It's a great place to join.
Matt Ward: I dropped in to train while travelling. I paid the mat fee for one night of classes. I called several days before to ask about the classes for one night. Left a message. I was promptly called back later that evening. I think John is the gym owner. He was very good with giving me information and very welcoming.Like I've seen in other reviews, Marcello was very welcoming. He spent a good deal of time with me. I'm a drop-in two-stripe white belt, so that says a lot. The instruction and drills were sound. I was paired with a blue belt that could work with me. When we rolled, Marcello picked partners. I was paired with a blue belt for one round and a white belt graduating to blue belt the next Saturday for the next round. Good experienced guys. They were sound in their BJJ. Gave me fits. Higher level belts should give fits to guys with lower belts. I have gone to other gyms where this wasn't the case for me. All good rolls. And good attitudes. They were patient with me at my experience level and conditioning. The attitudes and soundness of the students tell a wealth about the coach. The second hour, Marcello asked if I would like to stay for the advanced class. I did, and Marcello rolled with me. Again, a good experience. I don't get to roll with Black Belts very much. Good learning experience. Some things you may consider... Many gyms require that the students purchase gi's through the school. Keeping everything uniform. Everyone in this gym had the same gi patches reflecting their school. Nothing wrong with this. You just need to consider the added cost if this is a requirement. Also, I remember seeing a complaint about committing to a one year deal. This isn't uncommon for any gym membership. If you want the best pricing, you have to commit to a longer contract. It helps the gym with their financial planning and will cost the member less in the long run. But if you sign, you are committed.
Veronica Leitke: Coach Blake is really just amazing with the kids! I love him and my son loves his class. He talks to the kids about leadership and respect.
ratatmax01: Awesome instructors and great people to learn with in class. Great for mental health and obviously physical too.
Caleb Jones: I have been training here for 3 years and i am currently a blue belt. I am 16 and it has taught me self control and control of a situation not physically but mentally. Marcello has helped me a lot and i have frequent talks with him on how i can improve my Jiu Jitsu game. I couldn't ask for a better academy.
Patricio Gonzalez: Excellent academy and a very friendly environment, sensei Marcelo is a very humble person. 10 out of 10 for sure.

Carlson Gracie Indianapolis Jiu Jitsu: what do users think?
Matthew Baxter: Top level BJJ instruction and amazing and supportive training environment!
Luke “Bondye” Simmons: Great group of dudes. The coach is an OG of Indy BJJ and will still utterly annihilate you.
Brian Cousineau: I want to give a huge thank you to Alan and the Carlson Gracie BJJ family for allowing a traveler from out of state to call in last minute and accommodate me in joining them so I didn’t miss training while traveling for work.I cannot say enough how great of an experience I had. Alan was super responsive over the phone to coordinate attending his class. He taught a great class and really spent a ton of time going into detail on the moves and why they are effective.I cannot say enough how much I recommend considering this school if you want to get started. It’s a friendly environment, it is VERY clean, and the members are super engaging and respectful.I can’t wait until my travels bring me back here so I can hop in with them again. I saw all ages, genders, and abilities there and everyone was engaged. Come check them out.Thank you thank you thank you Alan!
Jeremy Smithes: I always take vacation in November and December to spend time with my family in Indy so I looked for some local places to train at short-term. Professor Stockman treated me like family right when I walked through the door. The mats were clean, the instruction was incredible, and his students were equally as welcoming. I fervently recommend this place to anyone considering bjj.
Jenny Clark: The absolute best there is! Excellent people!
kevin wilhite: Marco Demo just wants to call people names and challenge them to a dual.. Doesnt seem like a place to learn discipline. I would spend my money else where.
Madaline Hensley: Great instructors all with different styles of teaching. Bright clean, facility with great positive energy. Supportive environment for all ages and experience levels.
Humza Talat: Awesome place to train! Lots of good dudes with various levels of skills. Everyone is super nice and trains hard. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to get better at jiu Jitsu.
Robert Byrd: My three kids (15, 13, 12) have been coming here for almost two years now. Alan and the whole instructor team have been absolutely amazing. When we first started I was simply hoping MAYBE one of the kids would enjoy it… NOPE… All of them do. I know for sure a ton of the reason they love coming so much is due to the approach the instructors take with teaching younger students. They’ve created a warm, welcoming environment coupled with top notch training. Whether brand new or seasoned, this is the place to be!
Matt P: I was in town for a few days and was looking for a place to train. This gym was amazing.Clean mats, knowledgeable instructors, and an extremely friendly environment made this a memorable experience. I am thankful to have found this gym while in the area. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to put in some training with quality competitors and good people. Thanks for letting me stop in!
Joe McDonald: Found myself near Indianapolis and looking to get some training in while here. Couldn’t have asked for a better gym, better rolls, or cooler people! Alan, the owner and black belt, was welcoming and laid back, as were all the folks I met and trained with. Seriously, if you’re anywhere near Indianapolis and want some proper training, this is the place!
Shane Moore: Positive:Professionalism,QualityGreat gym!
curtis kusari: If you’re in the indianapolis area this is the place you want to be. I moved to indy and visited a couple gyms before landing here. Wish i had come sooner. Allen is a great guy, and has a really cool approach and understanding of the art. The level of detail is unmatched at other gyms. The gym itself is extremely clean, and there is more space with both mats than most other gymsThere are a bunch of people at all belts and skill levels. (It’s pretty common to be able to roll with multiple black belts and brown belts.) Its as competitive as you want it to be, while still remaining a great laid back atmosphere. In my experience everyone has looked to help others out with their growth on the mat.If you’re considering going somewhere else, and you’re reading this review - Stop searching and come by...

Do not hesitate to come visit the gym if you are curious and want to learn more about jiu jitsu!
Māku Senpai: Head instructor continues to improve himself by participating in tournaments. I welcome his no nonsense attitude and devotion to giving adults and kids alike the best training he can pack in every session. Other students and parents seem to agree that the assistant instructors are also great teachers of the sport.
Courtney Schoger: Out of towner and dropped in for a class! Great instructors, beautiful gym and everyone was super friendly! Thanks for the roll!If you’re anywhere near this area you gotta check these guys out!

Aaron Trobee: I live in california and i am the assistant instructor at Gracie Jiu Jitsu Applevalley. I came out here for a funeral for a loved one. Without jiu jitsu i feel lost. But when i train I want quality and cleanliness. This gym is just that! It is for sure a great place to train, especially if you want to compete. They treated me very kindly and accepted me into their gym to train with no hesitation. The instructor is good and cares for his students. I highly recommend training here.
