LordofthStrings: The atmosphere was fantastic and Luke was awesome to chat with while I waited for Jason to trim my beard. I overheard Clint with another customer and he seemed pretty cool too. My expectations were very high from everything I'd heard about De Nolf's. Unfortunately I left very disappointed in my experience with Jason, despite getting a pretty good cut.He had no interest in looking at the pictures I brought of what I wanted done to my beard and I could barely get a word in edgewise about what I wanted before he was off to the races combing out my beard very roughly with little care. He also made a comment about it being "his beard and I'm just wearing it" which I sincerely hope wasn't meant to sound as bad as it did.In addition, he had some "different" ideas about how to take care of a beard that I know from experience will cause damage like not using any kind of oil or other hydrating products, along with using heat daily without any sort of protection. I don't know if this is just something Jason recommends or if it's how everyone at De Nolf's handles beards but either way I'd highly recommend checking out Dan C Bearded on YouTube. He has some great tips for barbers on how to properly care for a beard (it's different than head hair) and how to trim one and communicate well with customers.Overall I didn't feel like I was there to get what I wanted done. I felt like I was there for Jason to fulfill his artistic vision. Luckily it worked out ok in the end but it wasn't enjoyable. Sadly I won't be back but I hope this review helps improve the experience at De Nolf's for others in the future.

If you want a truely nice lady to cut your hairs, make an appointment. I will miss her, I am moving to Mexico.

Does not put students needs first.. Will make it seem like he will help you but will take your money and run.. randomly leaves the school throughout the day.. has drinks with his students during class hours and will rant about white America for hours instead of teaching... this is more of a barbershop then anything..The School is just a tax write off for him.. I attended this school for 3 weeks and somehow owed him after already paying a deposit and the registration.. he wrote in on my time cards to make it seem as if i was there for a percentage of the time i was not.. and ive even been told he gives students more then 100 free hours for favors through out there attendance there... this school was the worst choice i made in years i warn anyone lookin for school to attend elsewhere.... SCAM!!!!!!!!!

katherine enyeart (foresttfairie): details for styling were given and the man said it wouldnt “look good”. i told the man to trim up the sides and leave the top alone, but he decided to do what he wanted. he cut the sides short and the top and cut my curls. the way he cut the top makes the hair lay flat and it barely has any curl. maybe listen to your customers instead buddy.

Brian Werblo: Walked in for my appointment for a beard trim and haircut, was about 5 minutes early. They asked me if I had a mask and I said no, haven't worn one in months because 99% of places don't require it anymore, not to mention how tf am I supposed to get my beard trimmed with a mask on...they told me I couldn't get service without a mask. Whatever, their business their decision I don't care. I left to find somewhere else, then about 30 min later I get a text saying I am being charged a 50% fee for "no call no show" but in reality I didn't get a haircut there because they want to be covid Karens when we all know that's been over for a while. Also, 55 bucks for a hair cut and beard trim is ridiculous. On the bright side, I found a much cheaper place that doesn't require masks and they do a great job.

Brian Collier: If you want to KNOW South Bend / Michiana then you have to have Armando or his son Chris cut your hair at least one time. Every story, opinion, piece of news, and walk of life comes through their doors every day -- it is an old world man's barbershop in all of the ways that were awesome before hipsters started replicating places just like this one - Armando is the OG of Italian barbers. He's got stories for days if you want them -- some old guys hang around there too with some quips and stories to keep the younger generation in line - Chris is the most patient barber on earth too. They can get you in and out fast if needed (but try to get an appt if you can), they're fair, their friendly, and it's not just a haircut but it's an experience. Cash only (old-school) because as Armando has said to me, "why the hell would I for free give away money that I make to the Visa card company just because you're too lazy to go a bank?" It's a fair question - and this and other wisdom is free with a haircut or beard trim.Warning: Women, if you come in, they'll cut your hair if you're sure about it - but they'll warn you pretty solidly that they don't know what they're doing - and I don't think they're lying on that.It's a great place to come alone, with a buddy and both get your hair cut, and talk ND sports, or to bring your child to get a haircut too. The language in the place is not generally rough, but Armando makes absolutely certain (as does Chris) that when kids are waiting for haircuts that they hear no evil. He knows good places to go as you're chatting about stuff, the decor makes you feel like you're home, and that home is in South Bend. He's brings that awesome hometown feel that a lot of places are lacking!If you're a parent of any age of child, Chris is great with kids. Do you have a toddler? (If you do, you know they're likely to cry at the sound of the clippers just turning on!) If so, Chris will turn the TV to a kids program to help distract them. He lets the kids feel the vibration of the clippers before using said clippers on them. He talks them through the entire haircut. And, he'll let the parents sit and hold their child, or put them in the child booster seat, parents choice.All in all, I've definitely found a new favorite place to go for my family's hair needs. I highly, definitely recommend this place.
