Tommy Mackey: This place is either an experimental living art exhibit or a pretentious coffee shop. If the former, the live models ought to show more emotion (it's derivative after a while when the scenes continue to play out with little nuance); if it's the latter, the coffee is awful and you better enjoy it as is bc asking for half and half will see you responsible for the ocular muscle the barista pulled.

Taylor Bartley: Cute local coffee shop with decent coffee and a nice interior with plenty of windows and some plants that makes it feel very open. Local art is sold inside which is always great to see. On the down side they have very limited non dairy options (serving only oatmilk) and everytime I go my coffee is always served luke warm (my pet peeve) even when I order extra hot. Other than that it's not a bad experience and I would definitely recommend to pop in and atleast check it out.
John Freitag: This little spot located downtown has a delightful atmosphere and cozy sitting spaces.I personally am not a great judge of coffee but the Dirty Chai Latte I got was absolutely delicious. Everything is reasonably priced and the staff is very attentive and polite.To top it all off there is an awesome mural on the outside of the building. I will definitely be coming back.
Kit: Shares the joint title of being the best coffee shop in South Bend (with Sway Coffee which is two mins down the street)!It makes you feel like you are in a 1970s aristocrat's living room, or your own home. There are artifacts and art pieces for sale throughout the shop as well, which makes it feel like my grandparents' house of which i have really fond memories... The people who work there are really friendly, especially he interior designer and Sarah!
M. O'Connor: I can no longer recommend this place at all. You would think because it's a small business they would care about their employees but both me and my partner got fired at the same time with absolutely no communication or warning. We relied on this job and cared about working here--the owner we worked and bonded with has not looked us in the eyes and we got fired over text! We have been treated with no sympathy or respect. We used to defend this place but no longer can because of how terribly we are being treated.

Nikela Atkins: I highly recommend this establishment to anyone reading this review. The place is clean, atmosphere is amazing, food awesome and plentiful, the staff is very friendly, helpful, informative, and inviting. Sooooo why are you still reading this and not on your way out the door? ๐คGet there already! The drink is a triple berry smoothie and inside of the bag is a mini zucchini nut loaf๐3/9/23I'm sorry but had to update my review. I'm not saying not to patronize but I am thinking of no longer patronizing this establishment. The staff that I've encountered is great with the exception of one. The service (3x) I've received from this fairly new employee is extremely mediocre and I just cannot spend another 10+$ here no time soon or maybe even at all. I'll know when autumn come back around, but as for now it's a no for me..I spent almost 15$ today and left a tip ๐คโน๏ธ

Kat Sky: As someone who absolutely loves coffee and supporting family owned businesses, I was so disappointed. I wanted to like this place so much. I have a cup of coffee almost every morning and I've tried probably 100 places in My life and never once have a had to have someone discard my coffee because it was so bad. I legitimately feel like I would've gotten sick If I drank the latte because it tasted like cleaning supply. I've worked at 2 coffee shops in my life and I know what espresso tastes like, it shouldn't taste like I'm drinking febreeze. I tried to give them another chance and asked if I could trade my drink that had one sip out of it for a cold brew and I was told no I'd have to pay. I already paid 30$ for a hard cookie, cold sandwhich, and 2 lattes that neither me nor my roomate Liked. I had her throw away the full lattes for me. No refund offered, trading it out was forbidden. Terrible taste and terrible customer service to be honest.

Nicolette Potter: I live very close by so I have been excited to try this place out ever since I noticed it 2 weeks ago. Finally found time this morning and am disappointed. The coffee is good and the muffins are delicious, but they have one young kid running the entire shop by himself on a busy Saturday morning. Waited to order for nearly 8 minutes and then waited for my coffee 23 minutes as he slowly made every order and stopped each time to take an order in between. Definitely not a place I can try to sneak into before work unfortunately. Let me know when you hire staff that can handle the rush or at least a second person to run the register while another makes drinks. The wait was actually laughable 2 other customers were laughing about it as well. We all felt sorry for the lonely barista.

T.J. Paczkowski: One of the few coffee shops that will make you an iced pour over. Hard to find that even in Chicago. The coffee and vibes of the place are great. Only negative is that a bag of beans is a bit pricey even though itโs good quality.

I'm pretty sure the lady at the register that took our order was new or something because she acted very uniformed about everything. They pretty much was out of most things we asked about. Our table had I can't even tell you how many layers of filth on it. We had to place napkins over the whole table. Floors are dirty, the bathroom tho are by far are worse than any forgot about truck stop.Food wasn't horrible but was good enough to finish, Especially for the inflated price of it. I thought when we walked out, for what I just paid for all of this why did I have to bus my own table?! Mishawaka is WAY better!

From the cashier not being aware of changes to specials to the kitchen making the wrong food and the manager arguing with me about the food until we looked at the ticket from the kitchen that showed we did in fact order what I said we had ordered.Four of us ate today. Three of the meals came out wrong. Mistakes happen. Not a problem. Arguing with a customer and being rude. That is a problem.As we were leaving, the manager left the restaurant to sit in a car directly in front of the door for a smoke. His car. In 2 hour parking. In a prime parking space for customers.The overall impression I got today was Chicory Cafe's staff is poorly trained by management that just doesn't care and can't be bothered. Such an awful experience.

I'm usually a boring regular coffee guy with cream and sugar but Alvin wasn't having any of that (in the best way) I said surprise me and he made me something so delicious I was blown away. Java cafe needs to protect Alvin at all costs, It has been a long time since I witnessed someone who genuinely enjoys what they do as much as he does. The two cashiers said that they were the only employees working today due to short staff which is understandable but they didnโt seem knowledgeable of what they serve. We ordered the ham sandwich with a side of pasta salad and the ham tasted like it was undercooked. Came home feeling sick which was possible that it was from the sandwich. Gross! Donโt recommend eating the food from here but Iโve always loved the hot chocolate, coffee, and ice cream!

fran kovatch: The cafe in here has great food. It's refreshing to come here and eat as they have unique dishes that are made fresh when you order. My favorite so far is the chicken Philly sandwich, but I can vouch for the grilled cheese being fantastic too. My kids also love the indoor playground which is free to visit and a great way to kill an hour or so.

Gwenevere Mueller: Visited at 2 PM on a Sunday for a birthday party. The cafe had double booked so one party was in the party room and the other party was next to the play place. The party room was pretty big and quiet but lacked extra seating. The play place area was loud. After the party, we walked around a bit and the place is very large with several different sections. There is a candy section, a chocolate section (fudge, individual chocolates, chocolate-covered pretzels), a coffee area, a bakery with cake and baked goods, and a grill with food. The cafe ladies weren't the friendliest but one young gentleman was helpful and walked us to the party area when we didn't know where to go. The women's bathroom was pretty clean but not kid friendly (tp very far from toilet and sink faucets far away). Parking wasn't an issue at all and it wasn't very busy. Not sure if I would return again to eat but perhaps for a slice of fudge or cake.

Finally got someone from another counter to come and wait on me. Customer service is really bad. Atmosphere is great. The food is good too but if you get something from the bakery (eg. a piece of coconut cake) BE SURE to insist on getting a piece from the middle and not the end piece. I don't know how long it had been there but it was so dry I almost choked on it. Once I sliced off the edge (about $2.50 worth), the rest was great.

Zack Moore: As a home roaster for 7 years and (until recently) a staunch advocate of the home roasting supplier in Oakland...I think after just 2 orders I'm a convert to Theta Ridge. I'm in Indiana, but the speed at which I got my coffee and the new Behmor I upgraded to was astonishing to me. Less than 48 hours for both from order to arrival. I'm used to waiting 7-10 days from the other place. The beans are incredibly fresh, and have produced 3 great roasts so far: Honduran, Ethiopian and Kenyan. HIGHLY recommended.

They ship promptly and I have never had a situation where they have been out of stock. This is extremely important for my business. I have been able to buy partial bags to try different varieties. Their charge for partial bags is very reasonable. I would highly recommend Theta Ridge to other businesses or coffee aficionados that wish to roast their own.
