There’s a new dog park in town! The Rum Village Dog Park offers an area for small dogs, large dogs, community area available for rental, pavilion and more. Tucked away in the beautiful wooded Rum Village Park, you’ll feel like you aren’t even in the city. Rum Village is home to diverse wildlife. Over a hundred species of birds have been seen at Rum Village, including nesting owls, woodpeckers, and warblers. Foxes, deer, reptiles and amphibians can also be found in Rum Village.

Come out to Rum Village for a game of disc golf! The view from the hills of Rum Village makes this 18 hole course a great place to play- and its FREE! Well-groomed park with a very old trees and elevation. Begins with birdie-able holes – the back 9 tests accuracy.

There are now over five miles of trails at the Rum Village Annex, which is located on the west side of Gertrude Street, south of the entrance to Rum Village Park. There are beginner, intermediate and advanced trails to suit the skills of various riders.

The city’s second dog park is located at Rum Village. Planning and community meetings for the new location started in the spring of 2017. The new dog park features both a separated large and small dog areas as well as a separated socialization area. The park will also feature a deck, walking path, rest room, and amenities for both people and their dogs.

The 18-hole disc golf course at Rum Village will be realigned and many holes improved. Play will be studied for ways to improve the service.

One open-air, covered pavilion is available for rent. Each holds about 75 people, and offers electricity. The Riverwalk is a circular system of pedestrian/bicycle trails on both banks of the St. Joseph River. Pedestrian bridges connect the Riverwalk at strategic points. One of our newest parks in the area, Central Park is located just north of downtown. The popular park is busy year-round, with a splash pad and playground for the kids to enjoy and pavilions, grills and picnic tables for residents to gather.

Connected to the Mishawaka Riverwalk, visitors can learn how fish make their way upstream using the fish ladder at the north end of the dam. Fishing is accessible along the entire river wall.

The park features 54.3 acres of rolling hills, lush tall trees, a playground and scenic views of Mishawaka and South Bend.

The park has a disc golf course and excellent snow tubing hills in the winter months.

Merrifield Park sits along the St. Joseph River and features some of our residents’ favorite outdoor spaces. The park also features baseball diamonds, a football/soccer field, playground equipment and an Olympic-size swimming pool. This park is unique – it’s a Japanese strolling garden that symbolizes the sister-city relationship between Mishawaka and Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It contains more than 20 different varieties of large plants, over 200 large boulders, a donated statue and a teahouse pavilion. It’s also a very popular setting for summer weddings.

The purpose of a Japanese garden is to present natural forms that lead the visitor from everyday life to a calm, serene, reflective communion with nature. In Japanese gardens, bridges are always made of natural materials, such as stone, wood or earth. The garden bridge is a symbolic link between this world and paradise; the arch represents the difficult path to be followed.

The teahouse is an important area of the garden. A serene spot for drinking tea, it also provides an environment for appreciation and contemplation.

This park includes a small gazebo and monument dedicated to all the Ball Band Workers of Mishawaka. It overlooks the site of the former Mishawaka Woolen Company, which later became Ball Band, then Uniroyal.

Perched on the banks of the St. Joseph River along the Riverwalk, this park has a huge green space featuring a historic bandshell for summer concerts. It features a picnic area with grills and tables, lighted tennis courts and playground equipment along with a splash pad, basketball court and terraced rock garden with a nearby gazebo.

You can also find the Shards sculpture in the park as well as an 800-foot perennial garden. Two bridges connect the park to the Mishawaka Riverwalk. With all these beautiful sights, you can see why Beutter Park is a popular venue for summer concerts and a focal point of our Riverwalk.
