Marcie Shields: Worst haircut I've had in over 30 years. My regular stylist was on vacation, so based on reviews, I came to Hair Crafters. I brought a picture and Ron, the stylist, descrbed everything he would do to achieve the style, then did the opposite. He cut a bunch of choppy layers into the back of my hair. The layers do not blend at all. He didn't even touch the top and front of my hair, just chopped up the back of it. And for this I paid $50!Service:Hairstyling

My husband’s hair was left patchy and uneven, as well as cut way too short. My hair was cut too short, has layers in the front around my face which isn’t what I wanted, and I have a single small patch of stringy bangs where I wanted a curtain style bang. Now we both have to spend more money and go pay someone else to fix it elsewhere and then wait on the style to grow out so we can get what we originally wanted.Service:Haircut

The updo lasted through the whole day marvelously and it was a windy one. Thought I had to take the pins out after the reception, the curls lasted through two flights on my way to PR, sleeping on a park bench/picknick table and a tour of the town while very humid. The salon staff are always incredibly helpful and make it a point to know you by name. The salon offers a wide variety of products and services such as extensions, Brazilian blowout, and Diva Curl. Becky is perfect for not only the icy blondes that I enjoy but also fun colors. That's not to say that she can't do anything that you might want. They will always be honest with you as well if something would enhance your beauty or if it's something that might not be the best decision. I've always appreciated that. I would highly recommend this salon and in particular Becky James. I think the photos speak for themselves.

EmilyOlson19: I got a hair cut by Jessica about a month ago and she did a great job, no complaints there. I loved the vibe of the salon, and had been wanting a split dye for a few months so I asked her if she thought it was possible in two sessions or less. I thought I was pretty clear in stating that I did not want platinum and black, I wanted medium/dark brown and light/medium blonde. It seemed like she understood so I came in and she got to work. The dark side is okay, it’s darker than I originally wanted but it’s fine. She started in the bleach, and that’s when I should have spoken up. I know my roots process faster and I was quite uncomfortable with her technique. The front of my hair was processing for far longer than the back. Her next client came in and I could tell she was trying to rush through the rinse and tone. She put me under the dryer and I took a quick look before I left, thinking everything was fine. When I got home, I realized everything was not fine. I had two completely different colors on the blonde side. I had previously communicated that I understood that my blonde may not be perfectly one tone, but this was taking it a little too far. I called the salon. The person that answered told me I would need to contact Jessica. Later that day, Jessica called me. I told her I was unhappy and looking for a fix. She spent a solid 5 minutes telling me that I liked that hair and that it looked good, despite me repeatedly saying I did not like it. She stated that I should have known my hair was going to look like that and she did exactly what I had asked. She told me that any fix wasn’t going to be what I wanted and she didn’t know why she would even do that wouldn’t damage my hair. Luckily, I was able to fix it myself, but I do not recommend getting your hair lightened by Jessica. I was stunned at the way she attempted to convince me my hair was fine when I could clearly see, as could all my friends, that it was not fine. I will not be returning, and am deeply disappointed in the manner in which I was treated.Service:Hair coloring

AE J: Curly cut gone bad. Nice experience. Great product recommendations. Bad, bad cut! Unlike my previous Deva Cuts elsewhere, my ends are blunt and one side is visibly shorter. The shape is the dreaded curl triangle. The layers don’t add shape or volume but escape every up do. The ends of interior curls aren’t clean not having been cut in the “c” of the curl but rather many curls bluntly cut together yielding straggly ends when the curls regroup. Maybe it’s just my varied curl type but it’s so bad I’ll have to go somewhere else to fix it.

Elle Christian: Looking back at my service encounters, the one that had received the poorest reviews and debatably one of the worst service encounters I have ever had, was my experience at Excel Salon in South Bend. The location, being one of the only redeeming qualities for the place is the reason I chose the salon initially as it was near campus. Located on Ironwood close to the corner of douglas it pops out of nowhere on a relatively busy road. The interior of the salon is simple, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, the lighting was very dim which isn’t fantastic as it is a hair salon and the customer would like to see their new hair as close to color as it will be in real light.The woman who was serving as my hairdresser for the appointment had told me that she would be able to bleach my extensions prior to the appointment when I came in. When I showed up for my actual appointment she had attempted to bleach my extensions, but they were a tinted pink color. She said she was unable to dye them blonde as I had initially asked, but still charged me $75 for the bleach she had to mix up to dye the extensions. Next, she foiled my hair. I am assuming she had no true knowledge or real practice with this as she streaked it. It was black and white striped and the bleach had seeped through the foils and bleed into my hair where there were brassy stains that remained from her work.Throughout the entire process she had voiced to me that she was in a rush and antsy to get to something that was necessary for her right after my appointment. This made me anxious, as I felt as though I was a huge burden to her and I could feel that this appointment was the last place she wanted to be. When all was said and done, I had voiced my concerns with the job she had done, and instead of trying to satisfy her customer, she left my hair wet and handed me off to pay for my appointment with another employee. When I followed behind her as she left through the door, the front desk person rang in my appointment for about $200- charging me the extra $75 for the extensions. Being someone who works in the service industry, I can appreciate the value of time and understand that there will always be bad days. However, I felt as though I had no value as a customer to them and the service I received did not match the price in the slightest.
