Social Security Administration: what do users think?
Ian Zimmerman: Will never go back. Rude staff. You have to wear a stupid mask
Dare Soley: For the second time in two months my husband and I were fortunate enough to meet with Mr. Johnson regarding our application for Medicare Part B. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and thorough in his explanation of the application process. He was also more than willing to answer our questions, and was very detailed in his responses. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have met with him in January and on March 8 of this year. He is a definite asset to the Social Security system, as well as to the South Bend Social Security Office.
MzScrawberry: They will have you on hold for about 30 minutes to an hour and you hear a ring then there is no sound and I didn't receive help after waiting so long.
Stephen Glenn: Bit of a wait, not as bad as I expected from a government office at lunch
Jonathan: Called to figure out what I needed to help my wife get her social, the gentleman on the phone was super helpful and nice, and then when we went in person, the lady who helped us was extremely nice and even joked with us, the whole experience was very smooth
Sami Craig: Very kind, welcoming staff, very thoroughly explained what all I needed— Definitely worth shooting a call in advance as well!
Salt Bab: Our government makes us jump through too many hoops just to prove we are a legal citizen.
Noelle Warren: If I have clicked on a star, it was because I had to. Two reps from this office help me and they are genuine and kind. However, the information they give me is always different. I call about SS Retirement benefits for my daughter. It has been almost 7 months now. No letter. No explanation. BUT my ex husbands ex wife is getting information pretty regularly about my daughter and her benefits... No one helps me. I ask for management and they transfer me to voice mail and no one calls me back. What now?
Angelof sorrows: Every single time I call up I get hung up on at least once. Today I literally heard them hang up the phone. I hate this office so much no one wants to wait half an hr to get hung up on.
Jo Armstead: Friendly helpful staff.
John L: Rating of South Bend local office.First in-person visit. Saw at least 8 people working and 2 customers. I patiently did the intake machine after it was reset. Waited for a person to make eye contact and finally call me up. They tried to direct me online for help when they are sitting right in front of me. I just needed a summary form for my elderly mother.2nd interaction. I called on the phone with my elderly mother to get and address update. Waited 20 minutes on the phone. The person that answered was rude and not helpful. My mother was slow to get on the phone (5 seconds) and the lady informed me show does not have to wait.Others I talked to have similar experiences. I Can't image what will happen when we have a real problem. This is not charity or welfare. We pay taxes and deserve to be treated as customers rather than problems. This is a leadership issueUpdate: Next visit. 3 open windows. 2 customers. We both watched the tellers chat for 20 minutes. Was told I had to turn my phone off because agent had PTSD. The address change was on the phone. I was allowed to leave the building to turn my phone back on and get the info. Thanks for that.
Rwings73: Fast service. It's Sept 1st 2022 and masks are still required. The seating area has over half the seats blocked off.
L S: Poor quality and customer service. Mr. Caldwell has no problem patronizing his clients. Not to mention they lie about their times when they will call you, if they call you. There is more, but I'm too tired and busy to go into specifics.
Debra Stevens: It was great guy really helpful
Nicholas Lowe: I'm not rating the SSA has a whole or the government and their requirements (that can be hard to meet), I'm rating this particular office and the folks that work there. I've noticed the first day of the work week, the line is, literally, outside the door. But, the days following, you can get in out rather quickly. My wait time was less than 20 minutes before I was called. The people are friendly and helpful, so long as you meet the requirements that are set forth way above their pay grade. They have to follow policy and that sometimes frustrates people but there is nothing these workers can do to change that. It's a nice clean place and social distancing and mask wearing is implemented (at least as of June 2022). I had a pleasant time.
ManOMagik: Big runaround!
J B: The person I spoke with was unbelievably rude, arrogant and just bad tempered: "Ms. Williams". Her attitude was so bad that I reminded her their calls are recorded and asked for a supervisor. That made her even worse. She was put out to begin with because I asked a question about what she told me, making sure I undersood- she literally chastised me saying "I already told you" and was hostile having to repeat it. There is no excuse for that kind of miserable, surly, resentful behavior from an employee that is supposed to be helping you
Sara Sporner: I took my dad to the social security office and he is pretty much totally blind so I went in with him and I had my 11 month old son with us. We got to the door, my dad and I had our masks on but security stopped us and told us we could not enter unless my 11 month old son wore a mask. How do they expect a baby to wear a mask especially for long periods of times. They don’t know any better. Apparently it’s the “managers rule that everybody entering is required to wear a mask.” There’s also no mask mandate in our area anymore as well.
Nae Mom: Mrs. Linda G. Martin is the most unprofessional, rude, insulting, racist and disrespectful representative staff member by any means. She told me on a phone interview that I was wasting her time. I never expected to be treated so badly. Please cross your fingers to never get Linda G. Martin on your case! It’s very disappointing that the social security office has an employees like her:(
T. W.: Called and spoke with a man at the St. Joseph County/South Bend, IN SSA Office. Didn't get his name. Was calling on behalf of my mom and the fact that my dad (her husband of 55 years) had just passed away and mentioned as much. I attempted to explain as we began talking that my mom found it very upsetting that the Social Security Administration would just pull money out of her account after learning that my father had passed away without any advance notice or warning. He immediately began talking over me while I was in the middle of sharing my feedback. I said, "hold on, hold on....I'm not done talking yet" and he hung up on me. I called back and again the same person answered the phone. I asked to speak to the office supervisor and he told me that he would not connect me to a supervisor and hung up on me again. Outrageous! To be clear:I was not in any way angry in my tone or the feedback I intended to share.I was simply wanting to share the feedback that for an elderly person it might be nice if the SSA would give a heads up if/when it is necessary to pull funds back out of an account as this can cause distress during an already difficult time.I have never posted a review, ever. But, if I had the person's name, I'd post it here. Unfortunately, I wasn't offered his name and only spoke with him briefly before being hung up on - twice. I've now been on hold for 30+ minutes with the national SSA phone number and intend to file a formal complaint of this person's handling of my call and attempt at sharing feedback. Being a tax payer, I am disgusted my tax dollars are being entirely wasted on this individual who feels he's above those who are calling a government, tax payer funded agency for help.
jj basilis: person ( male) that i talk to in the office was essentially dismissing my claim riggt away. stroke in 2019 which left me paralyzed on 1 side. rude and aggressive. if there's a zero here, i would put a zero.

South Bend City Clerk: what do users think?
Amber Hummel: If I could give 0 stars I would. Both times I had to deal with the marriage license department, they are rude and mean and nasty for no reason. I don’t deserve to be talked to the way I did when I called in last. I would go out of my way to go anywhere else but there!!
G G: Rude, I called to ask a question, instead of redirecting me or even politely saying no she goes "Uhm no, wrong", and I even said oh alright, well thanks so much for your help and she's like uhhhh huh. Okayyy then crazy lady, thanks so much.
