Nick Anglemeyer: Usually don't post reviews... However, buyer beware! I have a consulting company that hired Josef to shoot some photos for a company I consult. We hired him to do some white box photography. The company I consult asked Josef for some lifestyle images as well, which he said would "cost more because I have to bring people in to shoot those." Okay, that's all fine and dandy. Upon delivering the project, Josef returned "lifestyle" photos that he pulled from the internet, proceeded to charge more for those photos, then when caught isn't willing to own up to his poor business ethics. Next, he said that he would shoot 6 angles of each product in a white box, return those photos in high definition and edited. Josef returned ONE angle of each product and is now refusing to complete the job and threatening to "go to the courts" if he's not paid. Unfortunately, Josef was not our best choice and I would refer no one to him. Plus, good luck getting ahold of the guy when you hire him!

Alicha Grubb: Josef Samuel Photography is overall not worth your money. I was recently a part of a wedding where he was the photographer, and his photography on the wedding day as well as the final product were a major disappointment. Josef showed up in khakis and a collared shirt, not industry standard all black. Josef is a kind and quiet person, but he does not have a commanding presence. If you want someone to be efficient (you are paying for his time) and direct an already busy crowd in order to take pictures quickly, Josef is not your guy. He barely took any variations of photos. And most of them were from the same angle. We had to remind him to take a picture of all the family members together, and any creativity in posing came from suggestions from the bridal party. Josef spent three times as long on any given shoot than necessary. His final product was ready in two weeks, but it was not cut or edited. Many of the pictures, including one of the only two of the bridal party, were out of focus. And he does not release the photos to the couple. Not only are you paying $3,000 for a sub-par photographer, you now have to pay $8 for a 4x6 of an uncut, unedited print. I would highly recommend you take your business elsewhere.

Emily Cox: Wes was a DREAM to work with--BOOK HIM ASAP! We were originally scheduled to get married in Sept 2020, but were forced to cancel four months prior due to Covid. Calling vendors to cancel a wedding date is a nightmare during normal times, but with Covid on top of everything, we were very worried about complications. Wes not only made sure he was fully available for our new date in 2021, but he took the time to connect with us personally. He took the time to reach out to us on our elopement day and congratulated us both. He called and skyped and emailed with us continually in the months leading up to the big day, 'just to check in' and to make sure we were feeling secure, happy and didn't need anything. Bridget Langdon: A couple of years ago, after the first time my wedding was rescheduled due to COVID, my original photographer had to cancel because she was not available for the new date. A friend of mine, who is a photographer, sent out a request to Chicagoland photographers explaining that her friend needed a photographer for a 1920s themed wedding, but the catch was that it was also a Murder Mystery wedding, so it would be a little non-traditional.I got several replies from photographers who were interested, but Wes from Westley Leon Studios was so unabashedly eager and excited to be a part of it, that it was really no contest. He met with my wedding planner and me via Zoom to get all the details. I--the worst kind of client--gave instructions like, “I don’t know, just, like, take some candid pictures.” Undeterred in his enthusiasm, Wes gave lots of options and walked me through some of the ideas and insisted that he can live in the moment (*spoiler* this turns out to be true).We asked what would happen if, in the “unlikely event,” the wedding was rescheduled or cancelled again. He laid out his extremely fair terms which protected both of us and insured that someone would be at the new date even if he, himself, was unavailable. Two reschedules later, and he was true to his word. Luckily, he was still available to be there in person and did not lose an ounce of excitement.As I had never planned a wedding before, I didn’t realize that “it’ll only take me about a half hour to get ready” was hilariously inaccurate. I know that he was excited to take pictures of us on the grounds because Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, IL has the greatest gems around the property. It’s like the photographer’s Mecca. Of course, I took way longer to get ready, so Wes moved back and forth between the bride’s and groom’s respective rooms and then moved around the mansion and property to get some absolutely beautiful pictures anyway. He was so patient and kind, and I feel bad that he didn’t get to realize his full vision (if he was upset about it, he never showed it).The turn around time on the pictures was surprisingly quick, and they are beyond incredible. He’s right; he really does have an eye for catching the best moments on the spot. When I went through the gallery, it was like I was reliving every moment. I also relived other people’s moments because I totally caught my husband in a lie! (This was all in jest, of course, and an inside joke between us.)Wes went above and beyond to capture each moment and produce such beautiful works of art from them. He’s flexible, easy to work with, and makes you genuinely feel like your day is actually the best day of all time. Pick Westley Leon Studios every single time.

I say wedding day, but really Sarah makes her couples feel like superstars from the moment you book with her. From the start she gave us the star treatment. Sarah was also incredibly helpful in the planning process with reliable vendor references. She is so organized and professional but also very down to earth to make you feel comfortable when shooting. Sarah took our photo requests into account and made sure to get every single one! (and we had quite a few!)Of course, there is no such thing as perfection and mishaps can happen along the way, but if any issue arose, Sarah was so quick to resolve!! She quite literally bent over backward, sprinted a mile, and soaked in cold water in order to resolve issues and/or get the perfect shots! We had rain in the forecast for our wedding day and I had zero concerns about it because I knew Sarah would have it handled with cute umbrellas and knowing how to still get the best photos.After our July wedding, Sarah continues to be great to work with. She is so communicative and quick when delivering the previews and album. And again, if there were any issues, Sarah was quick to resolve! Jonathan and I are so happy with our album!
