They did a great job cleaning up too. I could not believe how careful they were. The crew was so friendly and acted like they truly cared about our yard. We had him grind the stumps too and you can’t even tell where they were. I recommend using this company for all of your landscape needs! And don’t forget to offer the workers something to drink they are there for you!

Am: It was a beautiful fall day, not a cloud in the sky, and Tony and his crew came by! After making sure that Vera Cruz Tree Service was a certified arborist (this can be verified via St. Joseph Co.'s forestry website), I chose this business because of not only the reviews but the response to reviews. I really value customer service and how a business owner treats others. This is a person that I don't mind spending my hard earned money with.Tony returned my call the next day and asked me to leave a message or text him on his cell phone. After that he stopped by a day or 2 later and provided me with a quote. It was a great conversation and I told him that I appreciated his respect for his customers and prospective customers. Tony was sure to go above and beyond and really stood behind that. You can tell that Tony really wants to help people and uses his talents as an arborist and business man to do just that.By the end of the week, Tony and his crew came by and trimmed the trees back from the house, removed smaller annoying trees, and inspected other trees and trimmed a larger tree that we weren't quite ready to remove just yet. Tony also removed a bunch of bushes that were growing around our gate. We can already see the difference, no more pitter-patter of little feet on the roof during the day and night. The squirrels and anything else are having fun elsewhere.We have hired Vera Cruz Tree Service for another job. I don't like to remove trees, but diseased trees or trees too close to the home cause many problems, so it just has to get done. That is why hiring a professional is important. The large locust in the back needed extensive pruning.Justin and his crew came last Wednesday and did a tremendous job on the locust and a bit of pruning on the dogwood. Jack Reed: I received a quote from H & K to remove a large tree and a stump at my home for what I felt was a great price. I was happy with the initial communication and thought that they did a nice job with the tree removal. I was told that the stump would likely be removed the following week, which would have been the end of September, and spoke with the owner a couple times since the tree removal. However, I haven't been able to get a hold of the owner in a while and would appreciate some kind of acknowledgement that there is a plan to either complete the work or issue a refund for the stump removal.Service:Tree removal
Ashley Hairston: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I paid this company a $800 deposit (half of the service price) in OCTOBER 2021 and he never removed the tree. I have paperwork and proof of him picking up the funds and services not being completed. He has given me excuse after excuse each time he reaches out. One time he said he his baby had just been born (even sent me pic) and then it was covid, machine issues, the list goes on and on. He even promised to bring my money back yesterday and he didn't.
Pam Smith: I represent the interest of a Trust and the dwelling upon the lot. I engaged the services of H&K in good faith, as I live out of state. The tree in question was jeapordizing the structure, therefore we agreed to remove, including the stump. I immediately deposited a check into the bank with the information provided by Schylar Hay, supposed owner. He called me in response and said that the bank put a hold on his account. Schylar therefore said that the work could not be completed until he had the money in the sum of $4,300, so I wired this amount directly. Ultimately the check cleared the bank, so he pocketed a double payment. Now, my phone calls are not returned and this money has not been refunded as promised. STAY FAR FAR AWAY. He even sent me an email with foul language. SO UNPROFESSIONAL. Even said that the check payment is 'IDLE', what ever that means. I provided him with a bank statement and bank register. Liane Hester: I started out back in February of 2022 with this bunch of jokers. Didn’t show up three separate appointment times. Then they showed and some of their equipment broke. They told me they’d be back the following week. Again no show no call. After many calls and texts. They said they would put me on the next week schedule. Guess what they never showed. So I gave up on them. I still have the tree problem and other estimates I got were way out of my price range. This past week they contacted me again. I told then NO!!! They lowered the price and promised they’d be out first thing 11/28. Guess what no show!!! I text them and about 2pm they got back with me said they had an emergency but planned on being out 7.30am 11/29. They came out within a few days to remove two trees but left the stumps(I have a receipt showing stump removal). I asked them before they left about the stumps because I paid cash and they informed me that they contract their stump grinding out to Noah’s Stump Grinding. H&K told me that Noahs Stump Grinding is about 5 days behind them and if they don’t show up to give them a call. After two weeks I have tried to get ahold of H&K multiple times Via phone, text messaging, and email. I’ve left numerous voicemails and heard nothing back, so I called Noah’s Stump Grinding and they apparently only worked with H&K once and H&K didn’t pay them for the work they performed.It’s been two months now and no word, so I’m using another company to grind the stumps. I was upfront and told him that payment is due upon completion. When I contacted him upon completing the job, he said he was out of town. I then waited and continued to contact him day after day for payment. As everyone else who has left a review has noted, he gave me excuse after excuse for not getting payment to me. zach davis: Stay far far away from these guys. Big promises with no follow through. Should have listened to the numerous others on here that said the same. DO NOT give them any money. Once you do you will never hear from them again and you will be stuck with whatever work has not been completed, which in my case is pretty much all of it. I am in the process of taking them to court and would highly recommend finding anyone other than H&K to service your needsIf you want to be honest, then be honest. The quote was for $2200 to remove a large tree in my back yard and grind the stump. You asked if you could do a smaller tree in the front, grind the stump, and trim off a large section of another tree as well for a grand total of $3000. I agreed to this. You then came, cut down the small tree, left the stump, and trimmed the other tree as you saw fit rather than how we had agreed to have it done. You said you needed $1000 to book a climber for the large tree in the back. I gave you the $1000 the day you did the work stated. You then proceeded to give me false date after false date before you stopped answering me all together. The only way I was able to get a response was by leaving this review. I also fed you referral business from my neighbor and would have done so several times over if you had just been straight forward and honest with me. Now you want to make it worse by accusing me of lying. I will gladly share our text conversations with anyone who would like to email me about this review, so you can see for yourself who is being honest here. They asked permission from my neighbor and he agreed to let them as long as they would fix his yard. They told my neighbor they would fix the yard. I have the text messages to prove it also. They were to fix it the following Thursday and they still haven't showed up. They won't respond. They also sunk his concrete on his drive way with they heavy truck and pick up truck with trailer that hauled the tree away!When you give someone your WORD, you follow through. H&K took the challenge that several other companies turned down and within a day of the quote were out inspecting the tree.
