From 1911 to 1923, farmers, small gardeners, businessmen and concessioners within a 40-mile radius of South Bend came to the Colfax bridge to sell their produce and merchandise. The market, which was open year-round, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, began at dawn and closed at 10am.
By 1923, the market had grown too big for the Colfax bridge. There were often more than 100 sellers and thousands of buyers on a single day.
In May of 1923, the market was relocated to South Fellows Street, near the New York Central Railroad crossing.
The market remained at that site until late in 1928, when it was moved to its present location on Northside Boulevard.
The new Farmer’s Market building was opened December 14, 1972, with new facilities to serve the customers better.
The Produces Market, or Farmers Market as we call it today, continues to be a bustling place. It is still open on the days established in 1911 – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It is also open on Friday starting on the first Friday of May thru the Friday before Christmas.
A restaurant is located in the center of the market, with three counters. It remains busy throughout the day.

Angel Gomez: Nice place I just happened upon😁So nice in there and lots of fresh veggies and fruits. There is also some restaurants inside where this is located...I was so surprised! Needs to be advertised more, so that South Bend community can support the businesses located in the building 🙂
Julie Ormsby: Very convenient location, much more so than South Bend farmers market. Great selection of items but my favorites are salsa, maple syrup, honey, dinner rolls, cookies, potted flowers, sausage, bacon, goat soaps and lotions. I also get my weekly CSA basket here May-September (very generous selection, all organic). In the building are food stands like Mikarri's Bistro (delicious).
Keshava Mysore: A small farmers market that is going on from past year or so, not as much variety as in the SB farmers market. But nice people run it and are very helpful and keep lots of quality stuff.
Cheryl Pomeranz: What a great find! Lots of vendors, even in the winter. Good variety. A perfectly pleasant place to spend an hour or two!
David Matthews: This is a great little farmers market. It's a local / non profit / farmer focused market in the heart of downtown. It's located in the Commerce Center, which is a half block from South Bend's first market that started in 1911. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7am ~ 2pm.

Joey Hiben: A pleasant farmer's market that is constantly growing and adding new vendors. Run by friendly, hard-working, and honest folks. Location is prime for a walk along the East race and a dip into the farmers market. Looking forward to exciting things this spring.
Rebecca Miller: Everything you need is here, bread, meat, vegetables, fruit, pickles, salsas, honey, raw milk, sweets, and more! The products are all grown or baked by the person selling it!
Scott Nielsen: These wonderful, literally down to earth, and honest folks are genuinely doing it right!They sell what they produce...a truly pure and authentic Farmer's Market. They are extremely friendly and eager to answer your questions including tips on using and storing their goods.

Alyssa Rangel: Sunchoke Farms has great product that's healthy, fresh, and delicious! Thank you for being so accommodating and helpful. I especially appreciate the recipes and cooking suggestions.
Laura Haigwood: Susan provides a wonderful selection of freshly picked, ripe, delicious vegetables! We have loved discovering new varieties along with our favorite "classics"--tomatoes, lettuce, eggplant, sweet peppers and the best broccoli we've ever had! Her mushrooms and herbs are a delight!
Becky Torstrick: This was our second year with Sunchoke and we took out spring, summer and fall memberships. What a bounty of food we've had! We've had fabulous choices each week and have explored a number of new foods. I love supporting this urban farm. We paid in advance last fall so I've also not seen my food costs going up this summer while still enjoying great produce. Susan is a fount of information about growing things and always offers tips or recipes for new items. Highly, highly recommend going the CSA route for your food!
