This Old Man: First off, just let me say WOW! That showroom was incredible. All the latest Penske models on display. Free flutes of glutton free motor oil while you wait in their upscale waiting room. Flat screen tv, pool (billiards for the lay people). And a complimentary key chain. I think it's 24 carrot platted. Very swanky. My only gripe would be that they took longer on repairs than what was quoted, but the free Penske logo bath towels made up for that. I would highly recommend their seafood plate.

Kev McD: I left Wisconsin early afternoon and was experiencing some abnormal shifting in my freightliner Cascadia. I was heading east toward New England, my home .I called my home base Penske truck center and described the symptoms. They recommended I get it into the nearest Penske service Center to be looked at. The nearest one on my route was South Bend Indiana so I called ahead and talked to Don, a technician. I described the situation to Don and he said he can’t guarantee he can fix it immediately, but he can at least take a look at it and make a determination whether or not I can continue on and make it back home. Don had it diagnosed within minutes but could not fix it at the time. Most likely a corroded wire to a wheel speed sensor at the rear. He said I should be able to make it back so off I went.. their facility was only a couple minutes off the interstate and I was in and out of there within 35 minutes. He told me exactly what I wanted to hear. I give this man and the facility he works at a five star rating because of his expert knowledge and speedy diagnosis of my problem.

Eliana Fram: Please do your self a favor and do not use this facility.My experience: In April, I rented a storage unit and moved my things in. I came back on August to find out the lock was cut and my unit was open, with all my stuff up for grabs. They told me that there was an error and they were supposed to cut the neighbor unit, not mine. However, they never called me to inform the situation nor put a new lock in. Just left it open for who knows how much time!They are impossible to get a hold on the phone. You have to call central u-haul (long wait times) and get an operator to put you in contact. That's the only way they answer.It's simple: I pay for my stuff to be safely stored and they were not. I would say they are incompetent, but the fact that I wasn't even informed and the unit was left open, just screams careless and malicious.Extra: their storage units' are the worst quality I've ever seen (dirty floors, floppy walls and doors). Maybe i shouldn't have left my things there but I trusted the U-haul brand. Maybe it's not too late for you to put your things in a place that'll give you peace of mind.Bottom line: don't use their facility, they don't care about you, your plans or your belongings.

Rebecca Short: Reserved a unit from them when I got there they said no unit was available and I asked them to call uhaul and she told me she doesn't make phone calls and pretty much my problem. Never go there

Dan M: Zero stars! I reserved a cargo van two months ahead of time for my son’s college move-in date. I got a “confirmation and guarantee” email from U-haul. When I arrived 10 minutes early to pick up the vehicle, I was told that their last vehicle had just been rented out. Despite my guaranteed reservation, her only response was that there was no vehicle until later in the day. She never apologized or explained how this happened. There is absolutely zero sense of responsibility or customer service at this location. I am not sure why anyone should make reservations with U-haul when it means nothing to them. It appears anyone walking in can take the vehicle whether it’s been reserved or not. I was extremely stunned and upset that day. I still am. To top it off, I got a text later that I missed my pick up time and my reservation will be cancelled.

Douglas Rhoads: Manager checked in my van a day late. Over charged me. Never refunded me. Went through head office who him to refund me and he still hasn't.

Daniel Schwandt: Do not rent from UHaul. They apparently are under no obligation to fulfill your reservation for a truck after they’ve taken your money and you’ve bothered to reserve something. They won’t even call a neighboring outlet to make it right for you. Had to make other arrangements on my own. Never again, UHaul!

And you always get the proper fill which is why I highly recommend them for 100% of your propane needs.Besides installing Trailer Hitches, Balls, and trailer hookups, they also offer rental trucks, vans, box trucks, car hauling trailers, pull behind camper style storage boxes, U-Boxes and self service on site storage rooms.They are currently getting ready to build a new building and further expand their availability to provide amazing services to the public.I definitely recommend this location.

Jeffrey Krafft: Trying to get a hold of a manager. I call, go through the automated routing about storage. And the phone says, wait time is less than 5 minutes, then hangs up. I rented a uhaul 2 months ago, somehow it ordered a storage space for me. I did not want the storage. I canceled it right away, hub cap Annie's called the storage place and canceled the storage. Yesterday I get an overdue bill statement from them. Trying to get it fixed, but when I did talk to someone yesterday, she was rude to me. She said I have to talk to a manager and hung up on me. If I have to walk in there I will not be happy. And maybe be rude to them as well.

Remington Barnes: Came in to get a faulty trailer light cable fixed while in the middle of a cross country road trip, towing a Uhaul trailer. Internet and door says they open at 7, but when I arrived at 7:15 there were two people waiting already and no one had arrived to open the store. Almost an hour later there was still no one there, and no local phone numbers to try either. Disappointing customer service.

Larry Chubb: We made an appointment for a trailer hitch. When we showed up the front office person, Kim, was very helpful and courteous. The manager totally ignored us for 45 minutes, then said he didn't see our appointment, (Kim saw it), then said they didn't have the parts (turns out they did) waited all day, got no help from U-Haul corporate, finally got it done the next day (but not the electrical). At that point we just wanted out so we had to do the electrical ourselves. All throughout this ordeal, Kim was very professional, and was the only one to communicate honestly what was going on. Thank you Kim for your help.

Mike Cseh: Had a 3 day rental reservation for a cargo van- confirmed the reservation the day prior to pick up.Was told at pickup that it was “this store's policy” only to rent cargo vans for 24 hours. So while standing at the counter with the actual 3 day reservation in my hand, I was turned away. This place stinks- rent from someone else.

Willo Radgens: My husband took the day off work to go down there (an hour and a half away) and get a trailer hitch put on. He made a 1pm appointment. They didn’t even see him till 1:30 and then they didn’t have the part they needed to do what he made the appointment for. What a complete waste of time, energy and money. What kind of customer service is that?!?

Michael Cavasin: As the owner of two commercial businesses, we not only own 5 trucks, we rent on a regular basis to supplement our small fleet. We work nationwide, and I deal with many different rental truck companies and their respective offices, depending on where we're working. South Bend is a location that we do work in consistently, and this Ryder office has been supplying trucks to me since 2016. Anytime i've needed a truck, they've been able to make sure that I have one, and the one time that one of those trucks broke down, they were able to get me a quick replacement to keep the job going. The staff here have been always been professional and friendly, no matter if it's me picking up the trucks, or any of my guys. It would be nice if more locations, no matter what the company, were as easy and pleasant to deal with as these guys! Hats off to both Liberty and Chad for their service.

J B (Farm Management): We rented a 16ft box truck for a blueberry farm for the 2021 season. We decline insurance and they still drafted insurance charges from our credit cards without our authorization.We have shown proof of insurance and have complied with every request. They have declined to reimburse us the cost and have refused to cooperate. We have lunch disputes with our credit card company and will be taking this to any extent until we get our money back. I don't recommend anybody renting any vehicle from this Branch. I have worked with all the branches from Grand rapids to Michigan City, including St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, and Holland. We have never had an issue like this before except with the South bend branch. The only reason we went with this branch, was because the online website show them as the only ones that had the truck we needed available when we needed it. We absolutely regret this action and will not be renting from this facility ever again.

Okie Granny: Went in for service as directed by Ryder Customer Response. Rather than being directed to a place to have the repair done I was just brushed off. It would be nice if the local Ryder shops realized that Ryder Customer Response IS my "company Maintenance Department" and that their initial direction says "if this is not a roadside emergency please contact the nearest Ryder location".

Exit back to hwy is: Right required,left at 1st light, go about 1 mile to circle,turn LEFT onto Portage(not right towards South Bend downtown)go about 1 mile under interstate to W Cleveland, a frontage road.Either way gets to toll road, prefer left turn, shortest for West bound and has a Pilot Truck Stoo Eastbound is a l3 mile loop onto toll road in city straight roads but saves 1 stop on toll road.Ryder facility is big, easy driving and friendly. Unusual rule is wait on yellow line till attendant waves you in, probably for them to walk out to the control shack from maintenance building safely.

Becky Jordan: Starting mileage was wrong and I had to have it fixed. Then, they lied about the mileage used. Overcharged me by 100+ miles. Doesn't answer the phone. But the only phone they have is some guy named Nick's cell phone and when the mailbox isn't full, which is rare, and you do get to leave a message, no one returns your call. Not even the district manager. SO THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.This place is an outright SCAM COMPANY. I warn you. DO NOT do business here. I will never use Uhaul again. Moving is expensive enough without being scammed out of more money. Not an honest company at all. Stay clear of this business.

Tim Cleaver: Do not rent from here!The attendant became easily frustrated with the computer system. There were at least 6 customers waiting in line for their rental. The attendant walked away for about 10 minutes and was complaining about his job as he did so. More customers arrived while he was gone. An altercation happened between two customers while in line and the police showed up to assess the situation. One customer was asked to vacate the premises.It took 57 minutes for me to drive away with the vehicle that I had rented online a few months before. I would not recommend this location. Go to western Ave location in SB. it is worth the drive.

I experienced no sense of urgency, common decency, respect for Covid RULES, the list could go on.AGAIN, I WARNED YOU, DO NOT RENT FROM HERE.Evidently, they don’t do on-line check in, so don’t waste your time with that. I made that mistake yesterday, showed up at 9am, followed instructions from email/text, only to be told I had to wait to speak to a representative. (Store opened at 10am)So at 10am, I walked up to a little shack type building, only to be snapped at. I was told that I had to wait in line. The line was 6 cars deep and going nowhere quickly. I tried to explain that I was thinking I could be in and out and was having trouble with my on line reservation. The guy working in the shack said their location doesn’t do on-line pick up and that I should get in line and stop holding it up, wasting his time. (Wow. I had to check myself at this point. I wanted to snap)So I wait. Almost an hour. Watching shack man’s co-worker, man who moves the trucks around, continually smoke in and around every truck. Gross!! AND MIND YOU, NO ONE HAS A MASK ON.I get up to the shack’s window and shackman is apologetic about my wait but goes on to blabber about nothing. He said my on-line reservation was denied because the picture of my driver’s license didn’t upload correctly. “Okay, fine” was my reply, just wanting to get a truck and be on way 2 hours late to move.So after a few minutes, I was told that I had an “eElert” which was the ACTUAL reason I wasn’t able to get the truck from the get go. I asked shackman what an eELert was as I don’t speak Uhaul lingo and he told me to call an 800 number, take care of an outstanding balance and pull around and get back in line.Haha. Not happening I told him. I went with plan B and begged family and friends with trucks and muscles to donate a few hours of their time.LONG STORY Short, I called today to clear up any balance UHaul thought I owed them and they said my account was zero. Had no idea why I had a problem.COMPETE WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY AND BREATHE AND BRAIN POWER.

At least Uhaul guarantees you a truck if you reserve it or they'll give you $50, so I guess that made it a little better.

Upon arrival there were no employees available and the building was locked. Employees showed up 15 mins late. Once they finally got around to getting to me, it took them forever to get me out the door. I pre-registered and paid for everything before even coming to the facility and I was still there for 1.5 hours... I will never come back to this business.
