Holiday Inn Express & Suites South Bend - South, an IHG Hotel: what do users think?
Andy: This location looks to be pretty new and I found it to be in good condition. Our room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The common areas also looked to be well maintained. There was a typical sized pool for a HIE and it was a comfortable temperature. It was conveniently located right off the highway and there were several food options nearby. The breakfast area was well-stocked and kept clean. There were a couple issues I noticed, the first was the thermostat in our room, it had an error message on it and we were unable to adjust the temperature. Second the pool had an odd smell to it while we were using it; we attempted to use it in the morning before we left but were told we'd have to wait an hour because they were putting chemicals in it. I understand needing to clean the pool but it was frustrating that they didn't do this before the pool's posted open hours. Finally, we requested a room on a higher floor and we were given a room right off the lobby on the first floor. The hotel was pretty empty so it was not a matter of availability.Overall, it was a good place to stay as we passed through and the price was reasonable. I would stay here again.
Jennifer Newkirk: This hotel is not for groups. We had the police called on us for eating dinner in the dining area. Apparently people talking and eating at 6 pm was police worthy. No one was yelling, cursing, or drunk. No kids were being obnoxious. Everyone was quiet during mandatory quiet time. I've been attending tournaments for 5 years now. Heck, Drury Inn encourages families to hang out in the lobby! This was unreal. And before the manager said, "You were happy when I left", I was. I was until one of our families was double charged and you wouldn't even speak to him about it, saying he had to go to the tournament company. No, that's not the way this works. You charged him. You must refund him. You also did a round about now that we are not in the hotel and again made it seem like the families were the problem. So glad I took video. I will be sending it to corporate.Edit after manager responded: the guest that called the police was the guest in the lobby that was told to shut up twice by your staff. Further, don't you think it strange that all of us that have attended tournaments for years, some as much as 10 years, and this is the only time we've encountered a problem with hotel staff anywhere?
Jesse Wisdom: Hotel is fine for a hotel. The staff was unreasonable and called the police for eating dinner in the lobby/breakfast area. There were three groups not causing any issues. We were here for sports tournaments. If they don't want people in your hotel then they shouldn't partner with tournament companies that will fill their spaces. I do not recommend this hotel. I have never been treated this way at any hotel or resort.
Leah Foster: Communication is horrible between employees, you get different answers depending on who you talk too. Some employees were extremely nice and helpful and others weren't. The hallway smelled strong of weed from a birthday party that they had at the hotel in their rental space. The pool was nice and clean, and the room was clean as well.
Jakobi Lyons: I loved everything about my stay here at the hotel. The staff was great and welcoming. The only issues that I had is that we needed extra blankets for the kids and was told they were out and or weren’t clean by the time we went to sleep. As a father i kept my cool and just give my kids my blankets and just used the shower curtain as a blanket. Derry greatly apologized about what happened and gaves us a great compensation. Other then that I would book again.
jessica pedzinski: My boyfriend and I stayed there while visiting from out of town. Upon arriving it appeared to be a nice hotel, I have worked for a holiday inn myself, so I knew I would be welcomed and reminded why I stay at IHG properties. Upon walking into the lobby, we were immediately greeted with a friendly, warm smile. A young gentleman by the name Derry, was the agent checking us in. It was a quick and efficient check in process. He made sure to mention my boyfriends status, and told us about the perks we are receiving being IGH members. He even did an exceptional job telling us what was fun to do in the area, as it’s been a while since we have been in the area. You can tell Derry took pride and had passion in his job, he was so kind and admirable. It’s not often you come across workers in hospitality that are that way, especially after Covid. You can tell he will go far and is a wonderful asset to this team. (I can see him growing with the company and promoting with his personality and drive) We will definitely stay here again, and I’d like to think Derry made our visit extra special out of everyone we came across.

Robert Pitzer: For starters, my wife and I are frequent HIE visitors and "snobs" almost. So first thing I noticed was how clean, fresh, and new the South Bend HIE was. Yes, a spot or two may not have been SPOTLESS, but this location FAR EXCEEDS other hotels I've been too. What's more, I asked for a late check out. And as my workday progressed, I had a feeling I wouldn't make it back before the check out time (to change out of work clothes and such) so I called and spoke with Angela. She was more than accommodating and assured me I could come after the actual time.... which I did and was giving her my keys because I felt so bad, but she was adamant that it was fine, I should freshen up, relax, etc before traveling again.SO HOSPITABLE! I was blown away by Angela and the rest of her team there and look forward to my business bringing me back to the HIE-South Bend!Oh and one more thing specific to Angela I almost forgot.... she had been there all day and before her shift changed, her replacement called in unable to work, phone was ringing crazy, the elevator broke down, people were steadily coming to check in and she ONLY HAD A SMILE and positive words coming from her. Furthermore, between all this, she took the time to help a young lady schedule travel to get home for an emergency. Absolutely stellar job Angela!
Rob Simones: Staff breakfast rooms fine. But make sure you get receipt right at checkin. They will steal your money and rates will increase at checkout time and your card is charged do not expect your incidental charges to be returned they will add it to room rate I've been staying at motels constantly since 2019 and have never been stolen from my job puts me on road all year but I for sure will be staying elsewhere. Actually the comfort suites in Elkhart including taxes only charged 108 and there breakfast rooms and staff are good. Here they have laundry facilities and even offer laundry soap
Tone: They got two goats on their roster, S/O Angela and Carmen.Them Queens are what customer service is all about and I would like to show my appreciation and give them their flowers. They truly make you feel like family and make the stay comfortable THANK YOU LADIES. The hotel itself is a great stay, the beds and rooms are clean, the water pressure is on point, hot breakfast, and you can take a dip and get ripped cause they have a indoor pool and a fitness room so I highly recommend this place.

Angela V: Stop by the desk & say hi to them! The housekeepers are incredible & pay attention to detail. The staff are great, the lobby/breakfast area - clean!, the guest rooms are exactly what you need when your power is out and you just want to get away from the kids in your house! Ha! The new general manager & the sales manager are phenomenal human beings. Really can't get better than here!
lexi arndt: The service my family received was incredible! The women from the front desk to the housekeepers were fantastic! The lobby was clean & the rooms were meticulously cleaned! We already can not wait to come back for our next visit!!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5 …More
Ken Stinson: Amanda and Angela are simply amazing! They both go the extra mile to make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible! They both are very friendly, welcoming, and very helpful with any needs you may have! Amanda went 3 floors to find me a comfy pillow! Angela checked me in friendly, professionally, and with a great attitude all while staying on the phone with an elderly couple to make sure they found their way to the hotel safely! Im Very grateful they work at the hotel I stay when I'm in town! Thank you Amanda and Angela for going the extra mile 👍❤️😎

Holiday Inn Express & Suites South Bend - Notre Dame Univ., an IHG Hotel: what do users think?
Ryan Trujillo: Everything was great! But the day after I checked out. I tried calling to talk with someone at the front desk, and nobody ever answers the phones. Very frustratingRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
J.T. Eagan: Worst stay I’ve had in a while. Ownership needs to take responsibility here they are doing wrong by their staff. One of the reasons we booked was for the pool which has clearly been closed for some time. Update your amenities on your site! Upon check-in the key card maker was broken and the manager (she was great but clearly overwhelmed) had to let each guest up to their room. The room was deplorable. It absolutely wreaked of stale cigarettes. Due to our party needs we had no choice but to stay in the room. My sinuses still haven’t recovered. The icing on the cake was finding a bar of used soap in the shower the next morning…gross. Upon checkout we were given a whopping 10% discount. This discount does not nearly justify the lack of execution. We should have been given the previous guest’s cleaning fee because clearly the hotel didn’t clean properly. Further, the pool is a major reason we paid at least $50 more than an another hotel without a pool for the same night. The whirlpool was boarded up and clearly this pool has been down for some time. Oh, I almost forgot: at 6:30am Saturday morning it took me about 10 minutes to find someone and ask for more toilet paper in the lobby men’s restroom. Attention to detail is not this establishment’s forte.
Robert Rouille: Place is a dump.. had to stay for a Hockey Tournament... Lisa during the dayshift is awful, rude, and holiday inn should be embarrassed to employ her... the only reason why it gets 1 star is because Tay on afternoon shift... she is a credit to Holiday inn... unfortunately, I can't recommend this hotel to anyone.. very Dirty, some rooms have foul odors, some rooms had no hot water to shower... to the point one family had 2 rooms.. one to shower in... this is no joke.. stay somewhere else!!
Matt: The hotel is a little dated. The location is about 8 minutes from downtown and Notre Dame Univ. It's in a part of town with not much around. The rooms need an upgrade especially the bathroom. The king bed was comfortable. The self serve continental breakfast was good. The staff was helpful. Jennifer at the front desk was kind and let us check in early. Plenty of parking.
Mark Good: The building is in disrepair. Countless things broken or dysfunctional. It's noisy, both from other residents and traffic outside. Maintenance came knocking on our door before 8 am for some unknown reason. We were asleep and they left before we could get dressed answer the door to see what they wanted.Rooms: 2/5|Service: 2/5|Location: 2/5 …More
Ashley Lovitt: Food & drinks: Great breakfastRooms: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Quiet, Kid-friendly …More
Kristi Yadron: Lobby is closed at 10:00pm to adults if you book as a group. All sports teams, stay away from this hotel.
Kelsey Kreider: First, the positives: we got in late and the night desk worker was so great! He was very friendly and super helpful, even when we had to ask for extra bedding for the pull out couch. The room itself was very spacious and clean, and we had everything we needed. Bed and pillows were super comfortable.Negatives: when I asked the front desk the next morning what time breakfast went till, she said “I think it’s 10.” (She clearly had no idea). Breakfast was actually over at 9:30. That would have been fine, except we walked out at 9:15 to grab a quick bite and the whole breakfast area was totally shut down and put away. We were on our way to a funeral so you can imagine how frustrating it was to now have to find breakfast elsewhere. my other very big concern happened the next day when my room key stopped working. I went to the front desk and explained what happened. The woman at the desk did not ask me for the name on the reservation or any other information to verify that that was in fact my room, she just made me a new key. So it was very unsettling to know that just anyone could walk in and say their key isn’t working, and they will have a new one made to any room number they give without any sort of verification. This is incredibly unsafe.Overall, despite the clean and spacious room, we will not be returning here because of the daytime front desk workers.
Willie Watkins: Clean and comfortable, several places to eat in walking distance.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Anne Hilliard: Check in was difficult, and found out that I didn't get the best rate possible, because I had gone through a "third party". Explanations were difficult to understand, because multiple people were talking and interrupting at the same time.Got locked out of my room for 50 minutes, supposedly maintenance was contacted, but ended up having to go to the front desk for help. Front desk help's key didn't work, so had to wait another ten minutes for her to get an actual key to let me into my room.Tried to check out, and was given a receipt with a balance of $470 that I didn't owe.Assistant manager (?) came out, told me that I wasn't supposed to get the receipt, snatched the receipt out of my hand. After all that, I was denied breakfast, because breakfast ended a half hour earlier while I was locked out of my room! There were children running up and down the entire time, and banging on doors. My brother, who has had a massive stroke, and my 90 year old father could not contact me because the phone in their room didn't work, and were frightened because the banging on their door came after they heard gun shots. My brother called me on his cell phone because he was concerned for my safety.
Rodney: First of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall all facilities were OK but the little things such as large stain in bath tub, partially used lotion bottle (new experience for me) plastic tooth pick on the floor, very slow draining bath tub and a pancake machine that puts out very tiny cakes.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 3/5 …More
John Michiels: Rooms were ok, a little run down. TV was small compared to newer hotels. Lady at the front was nice enough but didnt mention gold elite status or points at all.Area is surrounded by fast food, some smaller restaruants that close at 8:00 and other 2 star hotels. Nothing exciting about this one. A bit overpriced for what you get.

TeJae Jackson: The hotel is gorgeous and had a whole room set aside for keeping rambunctious hockey playing kids entertained because "we know they have lots of energy to burn." This is a first for a hotel to plan for and accommodate hockey kiddos like this in 9 years of traveling for hockey with my 3 children. It made us feel welcome instead of dreaded, which is HUGE. When booking for hockey tournaments you almost never have an option on where to stay, and to know many hotels don't actually want your hockey players there just makes the whole experience feel icky, like you're walking on eggshells. This was refreshing and wholly surprising. The rooms are beautiful and spacious - very comfortable.
Edgar Rodriguez: Staying at this hotel makes me feel like home. The evening chef prepares quality fresh food and the front desk staff is very professional.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

Connor U.: Love this hotel. Clean and very modern. Truly a unique hotel!! Great employees. Will be back! Need to get the old elevators back up and running.
Katrina L Wilson-Ross: Great hotel! Great customer service and breakfast was good as well. The only small issue was the thermostat controls were very confusing! View from the 14th floor!
Trish Boccuti: The sleeping rooms are spacious and comfortable and very clean. Love the dry bar toiletries as well.Today we had a business meeting and the room was very spacious and the team the took care of our food and beverage was great. The food for the meeting was average- not bad; nor great. But the great staff help made up for that!

Pickens NotaryLLC: Great staff, nice clean rooms, good food, and I love the view of the city. No complaints at all other than some of the sports (hockey) "inconsiderate parents" and their rude unruly kids. This is not a play ground. Its a nice establishment. I truly appreciate a clean, nice hotels, with a great staff and good food. Also I love kids. Kids will be kids, but the parents can do better.

Extra 10$ goto clover hotel . All in all it was an ok stay . With free breakfast .only saw biscuits n gravy.Rooms: 2/5|Service: 2/5|Location: 2/5 …More
Jared KRonewitter: Good staff
Micheal Prince: When your falsely accused of doing something your not it becomes a problem and I always thought the customer was always right not here int this facility and I would tell everyone I know never to set foot there....
Don Won: Unfortunately had to stay close to Memorial Hospital, but stoked this place was available. Breakfast was from 6:30AM-9:30AM, not a huge window, but free none the less. Free WiFi. The Mirror in the bathroom allowed me to watch myself pee, so I can check that off the bucket list I guess. 🤣 The beds however provided the best sleep I've had in a while. They had a fantastic pillow selection.
Laura L: I should have read reviews before booking. We literally stayed less than an hour, just while we looked for another hotel. First, as soon as you exit the elevator on the 2nd floor, it reeked of marijuana smell. The rooms were filthy; the carpet was stained, the bed frames had what seemed like blood stains, the chair was stained to the fullest and one of the beds had hair on it. I wouldn't stay here even if they paid me!!
Heather Lawles: The jacuzzi room was wonderfulRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Donnie Bergquist: Stayed 3 nights! Did NOT clean the room!Rooms: 4/5|Service: 3/5|Location: 4/5 …More
