No.6 Scratch Kitchen: what do users think?
Lyndale Mullet: Great restaurant. It was all good
Zack: Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5More
Alysia Boehner: Small but mighty! What a great menu and quality of food! We will be back!
Jocelyn Sandoval: One of my best friends and I stumbled upon this hidden gem and definitely did not regret it. It was both our first time & I couldn’t express enough how much I loved the atmosphere, the drinks & we were informed the menu is changed daily. The Chef, Vince, made a special appearance and asked how everything tasted & I absolutely appreciated him for doing so. The artichoke & jalapeño dip was the best dip I ever had as well as their grapefruit margarita. I also tried Venison for the first time & it was perfect!! Lastly for dessert, we got the Lemon bar cake & it was sooo delicious!! By far one of my top favorite restaurants!
David Sconyers: Had a vegetable risotto here that was absolutely phenomenal. Cute, hip atmosphere and a cozy vibe that deserves a look. The daily rotating menu just means the opportunity for great food is always there. Highly recommend.
Karen Haun: Food is always delicious & different. I love that the menu changes often. Beautiful old fire stationRecommended dishes Salmon and Pasta, Roasted Brussels and Bacon, Cauliflower Burger …More
Keith Fry: My wife and I dined there last night. Our first and last visit. We arrived at 430 Friday and were the first customers. Jay, our server, was quite pleasant and helpful. We ordered two shareables to start, Brussels sprouts and a Brie apple pastry. Normally, I wouldn’t complain about sub par flavors but being touted as made from scratch, coupled with the price, we were underwhelmed. We told Jay at the onset that we liked Rose Lily ( another fine dining establishment in South Bend), to which he replied people compare no. 6 with them. Well, I can’t believe that at all. The sprouts were par boiled to sogginess and although the pastry was top notch, the Brie seemed missing. I ordered the 55.00, 16oz bone in ribeye, medium rare, as an entree and nearly flung my plate from the table attempting to cut in. I’m dead serious. It was the toughest steak I’ve ever put a knife to. Further, the marbling was sinew and impossible to cut through. The flavor indicated to me that there was absolutely no aging involved as the toughness was leathery and the only flavors came from the butter, salt and pepper. A1 wouldn’t improve this steak.Feeling ashamed, (my own inadequacy), I attempted to eat about half before asking to have the chef attempt to cut it. The server, upon return said the owner cut it with the chefs kitchen knife and didn’t see my difficulty. Go figure. That told me all I needed to know about why there are bad and mixed reviews here. They did offer a New York strip to which I politely declined. Now, why this review? They did not take the meal off, but only 16.50. This set me to thinking about how nearsighted the owner of this establishment is. The meal was 150.00 plus with the 16.50 taken off and I would have given them another 150.00 try in the future to give them a chance at redemption. But that will not happen now.I won’t be a sucker but once.
Kathy Nguyen: Super lowkey place with a cute cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Food and drinks were as amazing as it looks. My party of 6 definitely had a good time!I got the Kansas City Steak and it was cooked a perfect medium rare! The mashed potatoes and asparagus were also stars of the dish.Parking: Street parking but there were plenty of space
Edward Stech: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5More
Kerigan Bermani: Owners and staff were all very kind, and attentive. The food was delicious! I ordered their land option of the day which was a roasted eggplant on rice with a yogurt sauce and other veggies. It was very good and food sensitivity-friendly. Definitely recommend supporting this local business!
ghgordon83: Good food and great atmosphere.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Heather Dudeck: This place has the best food in town! Cozy place! Will be back again!
Katy Harris: The food and drinks were delicious and the chef even came to our table and asked how everything tasted. Wonderful experience. We’ll definitely be back.
John L: Good foodVegetarian options: YesParking: Small parking area
Kevin McQuillen: Great food and service on a crazy busy night before a big game! The chef did an incredible job, everything so tasty!!
Eli Cantu: The food here is amazing!!Kid-friendliness: 21+ onlyParking: Small but appropriate for the restaurants size.
David Beke: All the dishes were excellent so far, accompanied with a very friendly and fast service even at busy times. The place is very cosy, however the tables are a little bit small.
June Hidde: I had cheesy eggs. They were good. Service was very goodWould definitely recommend. Small dinning area, make a reservation.
Vicki Preston: Food and service were awesome! Will definitely come back. Our waitress really went above and beyond!
Elisa Mesecar: Excellent food friendly staff
Joe Wooldridge: Always a great place to relax, eat and have a glass of wine. Food is 100% top notch as Chef Vince never disappoints! All of the staff are great as well, special shout out to Robin! If you are wondering, like we were, give them a try!!

Render: what do users think?
Cezar Cisu: Good cocktails and friendly atmosphere. Owner talking to people. I stayed at bar and Scooter (mixologist as well) had good recommendations on food and drinks. Good and really handcrafted cocktails. Definitely recommend and return when possible.
Michelle Jones: We went to Celebrate My Fiancée's Birthday. Everything was better than expected. Scott, did an exceptional job waiting on us.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Burger …More
Mary-Sue Crimmins: First time and Zack explained the small plates and menu.We tried the Bao ,kale salad and burger. All excellent. The Crème Brule was just the right amount of creamywonderful.
Ronald C Peterson: Susan and I went to Render yesterday and had one of the finest meals we have ever had. Each shareable entree from the Bao to Tiramisu was presented beautifully and the unique tastes included with each were superb. Thanks for a great experience. We will be doing this again.
Patrick Ndombi: We've been living in South Bend for a year and a half. We've tried several of the restaurants that are at this price range in the area. Render is the only one that is able to offer quality ingredients and a creative execution. In other words, it's the only place where we can't say, oh we could have done this better ourselves at home. Their menu changes every few weeks, so we come back on average once a month. Among their best dishes so far, I can count the duck magret, a venison steak, a spin on carbonara and a sea bass with mole sauce. Render is ideal for couples. We generally order one appetizer, a main dish each and sometimes dessert. With drinks, expect paying at least $40 per person. However, it is without a doubt worth it! If Render was in a major city, they can easily be contenders for a star.
Tam Tran: Went to Render during Restaurant week where they had a special deal “3 plates + dessert for $40” and it was worth. I enjoyed the squid ink linguine the most.
Luke Stavole: Render has delicious food, interesting cocktails, and a fun atmosphere.
Jennifer Merrill: Our server, Scott, was very helpful in explaining the menu to us since it was our first visit. We shared all the plates we ordered. The chicken bao was crispy, delicious and topped with pickled cucumbers and peppers. The crab cakes had great flavor. The New York Strip was cooked perfectly and it was very tender. Let me say, I’m not a huge fan of Brussels sprouts. These were amazing. The parsnip purée was a great addition to the flavors of the vegetables. If you’re a fan of crème brûlée, save room for the trio. The vanilla was tasty, chocolate was rich and creamy, but the favorite was butterscotch. We will be back and next time, I hope it’s on ramen night!
John: This was my first time at Render since they reinvented themselves. I was truly disappointed with the very limited menu. There was not much that genuinely appealed to me. They sell themselves as a "shareables" restaurant and I, along with my fellow dining partners, found the size of the portions pretty small for some thing they recommend sharing. The prices are more than the food was worth. I loved the original Render and the reinvented restaurant is not one I would recommend or find myself returning to for dinner.
Sonia Cruz: We were in South Bend trying to find a place out to eat at 7pm on Friday. We tried a couple of the more famous restaurants, but their reservations were full. We drove past this place and gave it a try. So glad we did. The place was filled, but had a table available for the two of us. Atmosphere was great. Tables were close, but not intruding. We ate wedge salads, lamb chops and a filet. All were great. Had a bottle of wine that was very good. So glad we found this place because we will surely be visiting there much more.
Sanjya Mick: The staff were incredible, sociable, and offered perfect suggestions on drink and food selections. The owner, Hillary, was out saying hello to regular patrons and had no issues introducing herself with a thank you and smile. The food was full of flavor and the variations on some tradition style choices was a hit. The BAO is a must try! The pillow like texture almost melted in my mouth. Between the sweetness and the savory....don't pass this up! The sweet potato gnocchi had just enough spice to let my tastebuds know my comfort food was well worth it. Don't pass this place up!Parking: Accessible parking.
Teri Stockstill: Wonderful good and service!
Gregory Zenni: Enjoyed this restaurant. Different but tasty. All plates were done well. Staff was friendly and prompt. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in selecting our food. Meatloaf was an excellent recommendation. The bao was great. Cocktails were spot on. Will be back in the future.
Adam Baumgartner: Had a party of 8, right at opening:• Amazing flavors and unexpected combinations – embraces flavor in a way that can be hard to find around town• Fresh ingredients• Food was perfectly prepared (ex. salmon had the perfect texture and sear)• Service was delightful and guided• Imaginative cocktails and at least one mocktailThe decor rides some dated trends, but it’s successful in creating a sense of place and welcoming environment.Honestly can’t wait to go back.
J P: Great new place with a share dinner. The Bar tender was great. The price is a little high but worth it. Check it out.
Celeste Biagini: Service extremely slow/inattentive servers. Only ones seated in restaurant. Did not clear dirty plates for over 30 minutes and there were many since this is basically a small plate dining experience. Took over 30 minutes to get our dessert and were informed the cappuccino machine not working. Unfortunate dining experience.
Michael Bryant: Great portions! Excellent drinks! Well done! Waitess was very knowledgeable!
Sarah Shafer: Service was great and we went during restaurant week so the menu wasn't the typical one, but everything was still delicious
DJ C: The server really sold us on the dishes, very articulate and the food tasted as good as described. Highly recommended!
Chance Starcher: Without a doubt, one of the best stops in the area.

Eric Ball: For appetizers, we had French onion soup and ceaser salad. Ceaser salad was not good. I had to ask for dressing. For dinner, we had the Filet and Bolognese it was average, and for desert, we had the flour less chocolate cake, which again was average. I am giving a 4 because the quality of the food did not live up to the priceFood: 3/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

Raimie Wheeler: The food is so good it's almost magical. The butter served with the rolls is fresh and creamy. I see why everyone raves about the wild mushroom soup. Creme Brule dessert is light and creamy with a nice crunchy top.Everyone's food was cooked to perfection and the wait staff are very attentive to the needs of the table. This was a rare treat for my family and we thoroughly enjoyed.
R.a. Wheeler: Absolutely delish but you had better bring your wallet. This is not a cheap place but in exchange your getting top notch food and service. The only downside besides the obvious that it's also not kid friendly unless your kids have an equally exquisite tastes. On the other hand if they do they will not be disappointed. We ate very good and again I would give praise for the service as it was also amazing.Kid-friendliness: Again it's not geared towards children.Parking: I had a pass no thanks to working for the Doubletree across the road otherwise parking would have been further away. But this is also typical of downtown.
Nikki Horvath: It was mine and my husband's first time here and I've got to say it was great. I was slightly nervous because we usually don't do fine dining. A lot has to do with our "look ". That being said, the whole staff was very courteous and welcoming! The food was amazing and the whole staff checked on us periodically and never made us feel unwelcome. 10/10 would go back.
Rebekah Kincaid: Visited last night for DTSB Restaurant Week. What a beautiful building! Impeccable service and amazing selections. The crème brûlée was my favorite!Recommended dishes Bread Basket, Wild Mushroom Soup, Creme Brûlée …More
Doug Basker: Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5More
Sonia Cruz: Cafe Navarre has always met and exceeded my expectations with excellent cocktails, food, and service. Our waiter this evening, Josh, was exceptional with the exact right amount of attention and timeliness. I travel to South Bend periodically and this restaurant is always on my top list of places to eat. Excellent waiter Josh. He told us the most popular dishes. He served us very well. The food was exquisite. Very well flavored. God bless you guys. Cafe is the best.

Patrick Ndombi: From the very beginning working with Jasmine who is the Director of Events was a delight. She clearly knows her stuff! She professionally guided me in the planning and food selection. Communication was awesome. She answered my every question quickly and politely. She was so easy to work with. The room was perfect for our group size. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff, Kelly and Sheneka, were top notch. They were friendly and professional. I got great feedback from our employees. Everyone had a great time. Thank you!!
Misty Cruz: I would call this place a beautiful disaster. Beautiful because of the atmosphere and our lovely waitress Patricia. Disaster for pretty much the rest of it. Starting with our reserved table not being open and them having to find us something else after climbing the stairs just to go back down. Our waitress was amazing and attentive from the start. My husbands drink came but mine was delayed for quite some time because the martini glasses were dirty. We ordered the crab cakes and I swear they looked more like sausage. They were overly salty and looked like frozen sadness. Our Caesar salad and bread was the highlight of our meal. We waited for two hours before our food came. Our waitress was so sweet kept checking on us and apologizing even though it wasn't her fault. She explained there were so many events the kitchen couldn't keep up. After 2 hours the food was cold and hardly any flavor. So very disappointing. No one seemed to know which way to go just seemed very unorganized for such an esteemed venue. We stayed mainly so our waitress would receive her tip for working so hard for us. She was a true gem!
Cindy Pyle: We had amazing service wonderful food Great wineA perfect dining experienceFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Deana Sutherland: We went because it was restaurant week. The food was OK but our server was awesome. Charity has an awesome personality and was the highlight of our visit. My husband likes to tease the servers and she gave it right back to him. She kept our table laughing. We wish she served at places we frequent more often.
Tricia Aerial Tran: Spinach and artichoke dip was lukewarm. Had good flavor though, and loved how chunky it was! French onion soup tasted like it was beef bouillon with water added. Not much flavor, but it wanted to be there. Shrimp skewers were pretty good! Sauce was a hit. The crab cakes were decent, nothing to rave about. Got some rolls given to us because we have been waiting so long for our entrees. The butter could have used a little bit more salt but the rolls were soft and delicious! Finally got our dinner, 2 hours later. The rice…awful. Prime rib didn’t even taste like prime rib. Filet was burnt on the outside, raw on the inside, and wasn’t even close to cooked to temp. Mashed potatoes wee dry, and under mashed. The veggie sides were undeseasoned and seemed like they came out of a freezer bag. I personally had the scallops. They were dry, under seasoned, and I was just plain disappointed.
Wesley Hedden: The server was pleasant and the building is beautiful, but the food was decidedly not good. We ordered the house specialities (prime rib and local duck), and they were both very disappointing. Everything was served just a bit warmer than room temperature and had a distinct limpness to it. Even the chicken tenders and fries from kids menu were difficult to eat. The crab cakes, soup, and salad were a step above the mains but still just mediocre. The crème brûlée by contrast was pretty good. In terms of atmosphere, the restaurant could go with more even lighting (some tables are so dark it’s difficult to read the menu) and some kind of ambient background music (it was silent for the first hour we were here and we could hear everything happening in the restaurant). I genuinely wanted to like this place and am having a hard time squaring my experience with some of the earlier positive reviews on here. The sprawling building is really impressive, so if you do come be sure to wander around at some point.

It was busy when we got there, but waitress happily agreed to take our table even though she was quite busy. Service was pleasant, very attentive & gave great suggestions of foods to order. Our meals were cooked to order, and everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. We loved exploring the building & learning the history of the mansion. I highly recommend eating here.
Kelley Davies: Came here for a work Christmas dinner. The wait staff were amazing! The prime rib dinner was delicious and the cheesecake was absolutely delightful! Atmosphere is an old historic mansion you could spend hours walking around looking! Loved our dinner and experience here!
marcia hauser: The waitress with the VERY messy hair, (absolutely unprofessional for this type of restaurant) said the duck would be crispy - it wasn't and it was so tough, I couldn't cut it with the knife provided. Ho Ping has much better duck. Also, the slimy squash was not edible...must have a new chef as this was not my previous experience.
