Ascend Indiana: what do users think?
Andrew H: Steer clear. You can see a lot of their reviews are from profiles with less than 10 reviews but all give 5 stars. Seems like these could be employee reviews.
Hillary Nienhouse: The people at Ascend truly care about helping students find meaningful work in Indiana. They are professional, responsive, and I continue to hear good things about them from people.
Kirk: Ascend is a partner who cares about students and employers!
Nick Massy: I was a Business Development Intern for Ascend for a semester. I worked on lots of unique projects where I was able to utilize the skills I already had going into it as well as develop new ones. The work environment there is amazing, I have never worked in a place that was as friendly, helpful and energetic. Everyone there was happy to come to work and do their best for a great cause.
Jeremy Walthall: Ascend has been an invaluable partner to our office (Butler University's office of Career and Professional Success) since their inception. The individualized support Ascend provides to our students both enhances their success in landing great opportunities and expands our office's capacity to serve our students. They operate with tremendous integrity and professionalism, are excellent communicators, and value our input and relationship. They are true partners to us and I highly recommend their services.
Cameron Luczka: Ascend Indiana is a great resource to use when looking for jobs, internships, resume advise, and so much more. The career mentor I worked with was so nice and helpful. She really cared to help me find the best opportunity! If you are in college or just graduated, you have to reach out to Ascend before going to any of the other platforms for jobs searches!
Allyson Low: Ascend was such a useful tool in my job search and I’ve suggested it to all of my friends in undergrad! Ascend is what ultimately led me to apply for the job I have now. Their recruiters helped perfect my resume, practice interview questions, and instill confidence in myself as an applicant to many competitive programs. Highly encourage anyone looking for a job or internship tot ake advantage of what Ascend has to offer!
Elise Correa: Ascend helped me secure an entry level job in my future career path. From the beginning of the process to the end, every member of the team was professional in nature and extremely knowledgeable. I wouldn’t have been able to secure this position without the guidance of the Ascend team.
Alexandra Nagy: Ascend is the best place I've ever worked! I'm so lucky to work with such amazing coworkers who are equally passionate about what we do.
Jackie Michel: Working at Ascend has been nothing short of incredible! They truly practiced what they preach when they hired me - an early-in career-individual with 0-3 years of experience, seeking a meaningful career in Indiana. I can honestly say that I've never been a part of a more supportive, goal-oriented, and success driven team that values people just as much. I'm fortunate to work here as a recent graduate and gain valuable experience both professionally + personally!
Ryan Matey: Great organization to work with! They helped me get both an internship and a full time placement during college!
Lucy Wehlage: Ascend Indiana has been the most WONDERFUL place to work. I love working with students as a Career Mentor because I am able to relate, make candidates feel comfortable, and provide them with the motivation and mentorship I wished I had going through the recruiting process. Through this career and through working with an incredibly mission-driven company like Ascend, I know I am personally making a difference in peoples’ lives and futures. And that makes my heart happy!
Sally Reasoner: Fantastic place to work. Incredible team of passionate, dedicated people.
Kristen Cooper: The Startup Ladies love working with the Ascend Indiana team! They helped us find 4 really smart, kind, and hard working interns with a passion for equity in the startup space. They took the time to understand me, my company, and what we needed from new teammates. Ascend has saved me so much time by identifying qualified candidates who are a great culture fit. I no longer have to attend career fairs or send tons of emails out to campus career managers. Instead, I update the job description, send to my Ascend contact, they share on their platform, and send me candidates to review. Whether you're a startup or mature business, if you're looking for talent - work with with Ascend!
V. Sofia Franciscus: Had two positions to fill with a very short timeline to find candidate, onboard, and train. Contacted numerous staffing agencies in the area, including Ascend. All got back to me the same day except Ascend. They contacted me a month later after the position had already been filled with the following questions:"1. Does your organization have any role openings within Indiana? At this time, Ascend only works with Indiana employers.2. Does your organization have open roles that pay $13/hr or more?3. Does your organization have an internship program or hire for recent college graduates?"This is what happens when politics gets mixed into just getting the job done in the most efficient, compliant, and safe manner. This benefits none of their clients that are looking to get employed. Steer clear.
S: I was applying for the consulting analyst role at ascend. The interview was done by Caitlin Brown and Jill Armstrong. Everything seemed to go smoothly up to the third interview until they "ghosted" me and did not let me know if I was going to go forward with the role. I had to wait over a month for a simple email that said they were not moving with my application. It was really unprofessional and lacked consideration from both Jill and Caitlin and it reflects the organization they work for. Do not recommend
Louis Briones: I was a few months from graduating and the post-grad job search was fruitless. I tried working through my alumni office and a mainstream job search site but still grew more and more anxious as graduation approached. I luckily heard about this wonderful company through a friend and the rest is history. The services are free and you work with a case manager who tries to tailor job positions to your skills and needs. I wish they had an office in every state, and I couldn’t be more grateful for how I really felt they were in my corner going to bat for me every step of the way.
Rebecca Correa: Amazing experience and wonderful team! I worked with them as I was just graduating college, and they really helped me navigate the job application experience. I was incredibly nervous/frustrated when I first started applying. They not only helped ease my concerns, but they also found many opportunities for me that I would have otherwise never known about. The best part about Ascend is that they put your preferences and passions first. They want to give you opportunities that are a good fit for you, and they will go above and beyond to ensure that. Additionally, their services are free and accessible to all. I would absolutely recommend getting Ascend's help if you are considering them!
Kyler Mcvoy: Ascend has been instrumental in giving me professional development tools as well as helping me find internships while in school. Their recruiters are very personable and really try to get to know you in order to find a position that suits your needs
Jack Wagner: Ascend Indiana has helped several of my friends secure both full-time jobs and summer internships. Very easy and personalized joining process-- a great resource to have when entering the job market.
Brittany Shellist: GREAT EXPERIENCE! Ascend has been a perfect tool in my internship search. There are many jobs in the network that offer great opportunities. Every week my recruiter sends me jobs that fit my interests, which shows how much this company truly cares. I have been HIGHLY satisfied with their network and have already told many other students about their great resources. If you are looking for an internship or career, you cannot go wrong with getting connected with Ascend.

EmployIndy: what do users think?
Kim Kim: The company is full of drunks that don't show prejudice about helping people of color!!! Especially Ms. Wright & Ms. Betsy!!!
Andy Downing: Best group of people selflessly helping others in Indy!
Eddie Hudson: N/A
Jennifer Walde: As of the summer of 2016, there is a new CEO and COO that are working hard to change the impact and perception of EmployIndy. The new focus and strategic plan will be shared in the summer of 2017 and good things are to come. For those of you that have utilized EmployIndy programs and resources, thank you for your candid feedback and patience as we strive to improve and better connect with employers and job seekers in Marion County.
TAX THE CHURCHES: No job training. No help. They just have you upload your resume like you're already doing everywhere else. I don't see the point of this office. If you've got multiple degrees and know how to interview and put a resume together, you already know more than the people working there. This office might be okay for someone who lost a factory job and has no idea about computers, resumes, and interviewing. This office should be shut down because it's completely useless and helps no one.
VA L: Unprofessional- They only get jobs for 25 yr olds. never follow-up with you, even when you call the staff manager. Firm is politically connected which is scamming Indy and Federal Tax payers through Workone partner ship, which is a joke. You have to play their game and go to EmployUp ( which is just a work program for those working at WorkOne). Horrible job capture rates. Staff is insulting and will try and intimidate you by saying that you are the reason you ( and everyone in your "cohort") don't have a job is your attitude, (not the market)when these people have the worst attitude going. Look out for staff who tell their fabulous "success" stories about themselves - but NOT for the unemployed numbers as they are abysmal. This is what is wrong with America today- firms like this. Holly is the worst on communications. Total fraud.

crystal shelton: The new beginnings program was not for me. I didn’t feel comfortable with their staff and I felt like they didn’t want to be bothered with helping me. I understand Covid is making things difficult but I truly feel like the new beginnings program was a waste of time. Some of their staff are not at all welcoming & seem like they want you to do certain job fields. The food drive is okay but you do have to check the dates to make sure things are not expired.
SHORDIE LOC: The Indianapolis Urban League discriminates the black community. They do not care about African Americans at all. They're using us like puppets.
Curt Epperly: I received my first Covid-19 vaccination at Indianapolis Urban League, and am scheduled for my second in April. I was very impressed. They made it super easy and were very kind. Thank you, Indianapolis Urban League.❤️
Rita Majors: Credit union inside urban leagues

Timothy Caplinger: This is the best place ever when needing some help getting your confidence boosted, job readiness, great training, and pushed in every direction where success is your final destination. Great staff! A big smiling faces as soon as you walk in the front doors.. I recommend Indianapolis Urban League to any and everybody that wants to and is willing to learn the best pre-employment class I ever been part of but don't think it's just a walk in the park... If you work your plan for Success and develop great relationships the IUL can be a great avenue toward your goals. I highly recommend this organization as being a valuable asset to the Indianapolis Community. 👏 Bravo to the Staff, the Supporter's and to the People who have been Blessed by their many services. It continues to be a joy & a pleasure to engage with them before and through this unpredictable Covid 19 pandemic. From Career training, Covid vaccinations, in-home Covid testing kits to providing food, 🧦 Socks and ⛽ gas cards it has been a Journey. I can't say Thank you enough IUL !!! A lot of Love & Blessed wishes back at ya.- SunShine Smiles
Clayton Crumell: My experience with the Indianapolis Urban League has been, at best, mixed; at the worst, frustrating and maddening. Although there is outrageous inefficiency (one has to complete the SAME application multiple times for any and all services), they (eventually) did help me in rental assistance, but help with finding PROFESSIONAL work THEY DID NOT. Six (6) years ago in 2015, I graduated from grad school and visited IUL for employment assistance. I was told by the head of programs they could help me, but not in the conventional way. Nothing became of that first interaction with IUL, as I attempted to enter the New Beginnings program; the staffer at that time was so rude and unprofessional on the phone, I sent a letter to the president. I received a partially-written response from him, an incomplete letter inviting me back...I decided to leave them alone and try on my own. But, last year (2020), I wanted to give IUL another try. While I was able to get into New Beginnings, the workforce coordinator/coach I was assigned to, didn't follow thru on her own words, having said she would look into some opportunities; I never heard back from her again. But in January of this year, I got an email from the head of programs, stating I was selected to participate in a joint project with a local employer for a possible professional internship (in part because I had education and work experience), and was assigned another coordinator/coach. Late in the project, A WHOLE MONTH preparing to apply for the internship, I was told by the coach that I was NOW INELIGIBLE FOR THE INTERNSHIP BECAUSE I HAD 2 DEGREES!?! The coach NEVER gave an explanation on WHY all of a sudden, after a month in preparing to apply for the internship, I was now ineligible for having education (if that was one of, if not, the reason)... I sent an email to the head of programs who sent out the email, asking for an explanation; she never responded...While the coach stated she was going to help me get a job, she NEVER ASKED me what kind of job I was looking for. Although there were video calls with the employer on what they were looking for, and I did get a 3rd-shift, general labor job with that company, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE that IUL assisted with my gaining employment with said company, as they were already on a mass hiring push anyway (and the coach stopped communicating with me and haven't heard from her since). BEFORE I obtained said job, I needed rental assistance, so I contacted IUL again for help. I was directed to the income and support coach, who showed disorganization, was inconsistent, and displayed his anger when his unprofessionalism was called out (i.e. confused my case with someone else's; didn't tell me all of the steps necessary to apply for assistance; took credit for the internship that I never got nor was allowed to apply for; NEVER contacted my leasing office thru-out the process, causing my application to lapse, etc. At one point, he told me, almost as an afterthought, to contact the financial coach, as it was required. Again, unprofessionalism prevailed when she called me back, providing ABSOLUTELY NO FINANCIAL COACHING WHATSOEVER!). Again, for the record, I emailed the head of programs, about the status of my request for rental assistance; days later, I got a call from her assistant about helping with the IUL food drive (?!), but eventually assisted me with my rent situation, walking me thru step-by-step, WHICH I AM VERY MUCH APPRECIATIVE OF!!! But, in the end, overall, I didn't get ALL and THE SPECIFIC assistance IUL said THEY could've helped me with, and with the unprofessionalism, that made it worse...
Loyshay Boone: Love Mr. Allen and Ms. Veronica Williams and the programs they offer. If you need assistance with employment, please utilize their superb resources.
Rhonda Ayers: Great place to restart life no excuse program they'll help you if you want to get a job and need new skills I learned how to do a resume as soon as I hit send I got a call and a job

Eleven Fifty Academy: what do users think?
Hamza Bey: I passed the cyber security course with all of the certifications I set out to get and it was a great learning experience, but “career services” is no help at all with getting a job in the field I studied for. They keep pushing low paying basic IT jobs rather than in cyber security.
Sarah Wright: I was really excited to get started with the web development course in 2021 and heard amazing things from many friends that went through the program. Unfortunately, it was disorganized from the start. I got a text the day before the class was set to start saying that it wouldn't start for 2 more weeks. I really enjoyed the first few introductory weeks of the course. Then, a few weeks into after the initial tuition agreement had been signed, we were informed there would be no web development course and we had to do software development or cybersecurity or drop out. We later found out that most of the staff had been laid off, including my admissions advisor. We also found out that career services, that was a huge selling point for me and other students, did not exist anymore.I decided to stick with the software development course. Many of us were expecting to get a lot of JavaScript experience, but we were then told it would be all C#.The Canvas course was not setup at all when we started, and I felt that we paid thousands for no instruction and tasks to figure out on our own. I understand that independent problem-solving is very important in this field, but we wasted so much time trying to figure out the basics on our own and were given busy-work tasks to fill up our time. When I voiced my concerns to student success, they were all dismissed. I felt like I had been scammed, having put my previous career on hold, and ended up dropping the course.Overall, I had a very unpleasant experience here. The instructors were kind and helpful, but this company is predatory.
Martin Flaherty: Great instructors, friendly staff, and a good mission statement.
Jason Line: I came to EFA with absolutely no tech experience whatsoever and now I'm in a Software Engineering role (loving my job and making great money doing it); all because of what I learned at the school. It works and the curriculum is based around the skills employers actually need.I had never even thought about going into tech (I thought it was mostly for super smart young people), but a co-worker of mine recommended EFA to me. I attended a free course and absolutely fell in love with coding. And thus, I was on my path to a new career. The instructors were great! You can tell they really have a passion for teaching, because, well...with their skills they could certainly make more money somewhere else. So it's nice to know that they really do have your back and best interest at heart.Career Services - I think the negative reviews about CS are mostly due to mismanaged expectations. The biggest benefits of CS is resume writing (they helped me greatly) and getting your resume in front of employers, if the opportunity arises. They also do interview prep, but I never used that service. And I think that is about it. Don't expect to get placed in a job via CS. They can help, but ultimately it's your career, it's up to you to do the work. Having said that, if you've never worked in Tech, you will probably submit a lot of resumes, get a ton of rejection emails, have interviews and then get ghosted, it's just how it is. Breaking into tech is not easy, but if you put in the work and stay the course, you will eventually get there. Network! Network! Network! All in all, I loved my time at Eleven Fifty and I am forever grateful for the skills and training they provided me. I felt like there were some unfair negative reviews; which prompted me to write this...not for them, but for potential future students. Their programs work and I can attest to that, but you still have to have the fortitude and determination to make it work. At the end of the day, it's your career, you get out what you put in it.I hope this helps someone.Only 4 stars, because never give a perfect score. "One bite. Everyone knows the rules" :)
Miguel C: The learning experience was great. That’s all. I unfortunately did not get to pass the course, but that’s not my issue. My issue is that the academy COMPLETELY ghosted me after the classes were over. I’ve been trying for weeks to talk to someone to get a letter stating I was enrolled, but no one ever picks up their phone, returns calls, and not even a slight hint of direction or assistance is given.DO NOT ENROLL HERE. They will take your money, set you up with a cool instructor, and your experience will slowly go downhill from there. My instructor for the first half of the course was luckily pretty awesome; but after him…yeah, no. No thanks. Please, if you (the reader) take reviews seriously: go elsewhere.
Aaron Van Curen: I am writing this review as an EFA Alumni and prior EFA Learning Assistant. Personally, I had a decent experience with the course itself. I had a wonderful Instructor and a great Instructor Trainee. The content offered a good base knowledge. I will say the LAs in my course hardly helped me out but not to say the did not help others. After graduation, the career services was only slightly helpful. I had decent communication at first and my advisor did help create a great resume. However, career services seems to degrade in their communication and does not send any job opportunities after several weeks. I did eventually land a job after ten months but I cannot say EFA career services contributed in any regard to that. I did get a job with EFA as a learning assistant which was a great experience as far as helping students. I never had great communication with anyone within the company unless I was directly working with them which I understood to a point because a lot of people were part-time or had other jobs. Overall, the company, from my perspective, seemed to be unorganized when it came to scheduling and communication. That was my experience. The real issue for me did not occur until January 13th, 2022 when EFA decided restrict my access to my work email and all EFA resources without notice even though my contract was not expired until January 31st. Since then, the communication has gone to zero and they have been very difficult to work with because of the lack of communication. We were essentially ghosted.
Amanda Luedeke: RUN AWAY. The virtual bootcamp experience was a mess. Everything seemed to have been thrown together at the last minute. Now, two months out, we have received ZERO career support. The career person assigned to my husband completely ghosted him. What a joke. This company takes your money (or government money, if you qualify) and leaves you in the dust.
Coobjh: Joke Academy. The staff has poor communication. Instructors have entry-level experience. You better taking an online course instead of registering with them and get stuck with their grading and attending rules.
Ross Fisher: There seems to be massive communication issues between the staff and students. Need to get ahold of your instructor, your advisor, the director or student success for a critical issue affecting your ability to attend class?Good luck. It took a few days to get in touch with anyone even after leaving voicemails and sending several emails. Once they get you enrolled and get their pay, it’s very unlikely you will be able to get ahold of anyone if anything comes up, and then they’ll just remove you from Slack with no explanation. If you miss a day or two of the full time program, you might as well drop out as you are never going to catch up.Save your time and sanity, check out a self led coding platform for $10-20 a month.I also feel as if they should start students out in Python, JavaScript instead of C# to get the fundamentals down, instead of a language that is a dumpster fire with platform dependencies, builds and “Visual Studio”. .NET is 🤮Source: Self taught high school dropout working as a software engineer at six figures for a Fortune 50 company. I encouraged a friend of mine to attend and regret my decision.I’m going to get them setup on teamtreehouse and start them out with Git fundamentals, then onto Python before we go full stack JavaScript.
Paul Fesenmeier: The Eleven Fifty program succeeded in taking me where I was at the time (two online CS courses*, a working understanding of a few programming languages, and enjoying the work) and getting me to a place where I could confidently apply for jobs. The team project experience came up a lot in interviews. Three months after the program I landed a developer position at a great company, where I’m still using many of the skills I picked up here.*CS50 and MIT’s Introduction to Computer Science and Programming Using Python, both available for free on Edx.org
Jordan Shea: I recently attended a CSS/HTML bootcamp hosted by Eleven Fifty! To say I was impressed is an understatement. I was so excited by how it went, I scheduled a meeting with admissions almost immediately. The flexibility they're offering (esp given the pandemic) is perfect for those looking to expand their skill sets.
Aaron Floyd: I graduated from this program in December 2019. I would recommend attending EFA for many reasons! It doesn't matter if you do not how to code, THEY WILL TEACH YOU and bonus- everyone I encountered was very friendly, knowledgeable and eager to share!
